Timeline problem

I'm a newbie learning Captivate 3 from Kevin Siegel's book. I'm getting into the section on working with the timeline and think I have screwed something up. I am in the edit view, Slide Properties window and have Show TImeline turned on, but feel the timeline is covered by the window. I try to close the window up a little by using the grey bar (handle?) at the top of the screen.

Please, what am I doing wrong?

Try clicking View * Show Timeline. Perhaps twice.

I've done that over and over. When Show Timeline is checked, the grey bar at the top shows: when Show Timeline is unchecked, it doesn't. I am ready to cry!!! I have tried to grab the bar to pull the window down ...no, wait.....now it worked!!!

End of crisis for now.
