1. Re: Firefox 3.6
370H55V Feb 4, 2010 4:17 AM (in response to Stuart Haiz)I didn't have it exactly like that. I beta'd 3.6 in December/January, and when I installed it, suddenly it (the beta) became my default browser, when I didn't want it to.
You simply need to redefine your browser list from the File menu.

Stuart Haiz Feb 4, 2010 6:05 AM (in response to 370H55V)Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly, it didn't work. I tried clearing my list and adding browsers back etc but no luck.

There is a big thread on this. I have downgraded to 3.5.7 and now have Preview in Browser working again.

4. Re: Preview in Browser not working with Firefox 3.6 [was: Firefox 3.6]
Mason Oller Feb 5, 2010 12:44 PM (in response to Stuart Haiz)One workaround for getting Dreamweaver to work with Firefox 3.6 is Automator. I was reading a mozilla users thread about this; mozilla considers the new way better (no spaces or special characters in path names). I tried this, but still had problems. But, the following Automator app does works for me.
First, if you haven't already, set the default broswer in Safari's preferences to Firefox.
Open Automator and set up the following workflow:
Get Specified Finder Items - add the DW doc you want to preview in Firefox.
Display Webpages - this opens Safari (or the default broswer set in Safari's prefences).
Save the workflow as an application (ex: StandardBrowser.app)
Add the new app to the DW browser list.
The path (Get Specified Finder Items) needs to be edited for each page you want to preview. I suppose you could create an Automator app for each page and add them to the browser list, but I prefer to just edit the Automator app for each page. Just reopen the app in Automator and add a new path to Get Specified Finder Items.
The poster who gave me this tip said on his 10.6 machine that step one will work just by itself and that step two will work just by itself. Neither one of the one step solutions worked for me (10.5), but the two step Automator app above does.

Stuart Haiz Feb 6, 2010 9:52 AM (in response to Mason Oller)Thanks for sharing this. Glad you got it working.
Frankly though:
"The path (Get Specified Finder Items) needs to be edited for each page you want to preview. I suppose you could create an Automator app for each page and add them to the browser list, but I prefer to just edit the Automator app for each page."
Seems like a lot of extra work!

Stuart Haiz Feb 21, 2010 10:47 AM (in response to Stuart Haiz)Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet? I am currently using FF 3.5.8 without problems.

7. Re: Preview in Browser not working with Firefox 3.6 [was: Firefox 3.6]
Mason Oller Feb 21, 2010 12:14 PM (in response to Stuart Haiz)I've been following this at: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/561015
It doesn't sound like it will be fixed. Mozilla doesn't consider it a bug. If you create a site and set testing server option to none, and make sure your site pathname does not have any spaces, you can preview with 3.6. But, if you want to use MAMP or another testing server, then the preview won't work.
Like I mentioned at the Firefox user forum, since this came up, I've been using Safari and Opera more and more. And, I'm really starting to like Safari's Web Inspector and Opera's Dragonfly. When I find an alternative to Firefox's IE NetRenderer plugin, that's when I will probably stop using Firefox, altogether. The developer plugins is what I really liked about Firefox, but if I can get that functionality with apps that still work with DW, then naturally that's way I'm going to go.

8. Re: Preview in Browser not working with Firefox 3.6 [was: Firefox 3.6]
Stuart Haiz Feb 22, 2010 3:08 AM (in response to Mason Oller)Thanks Mason.
Yup - I use MAMP...
Recently, I too have been using Safari a lot more, mainly because it loads quicker than Firefox. I haven't really tried the developer's inspector though so may give it a go. What stopped me was the color values being rgb rather than hex. That's fine if I want to use transparency, but do you know if there is an option somewhere to use hex values?

9. Re: Preview in Browser not working with Firefox 3.6 [was: Firefox 3.6]
Mason Oller Feb 23, 2010 3:13 PM (in response to Stuart Haiz)You can make a hex color "eyedropper" very quick an easy on a Mac.
First, download this:
http://wafflesoftware.net/hexpicker/
It adds hex color funtionality to ColorPicker.
Next, open Script Editor and enter two words: choose color
Save as application (this creates a stand alone ColorPicker).
Launch.
Select ColorPicker's looking glass icon, hover and click anywhere to get a hex color value.
I think there's probably a way to make this application always float. If someone would post the AppleScript for that, I would greatly appreciate it.
Hope this helps.

10. Re: Preview in Browser not working with Firefox 3.6 [was: Firefox 3.6]
Stuart Haiz Feb 24, 2010 2:19 AM (in response to Mason Oller)Great - thank you. I have created the app as you suggest and tried it out.
However, using Utilities > DigitalColor Meter with RGB as Hex Value is a lot easier to use, and it floats! Plus you don't have to click the glass to select a color.
Still surprised that Apple left Hex out of the Developer's Inspector.

11. Re: Preview in Browser not working with Firefox 3.6 [was: Firefox 3.6]
Mason Oller Feb 24, 2010 9:07 AM (in response to Stuart Haiz)Thank you! I'm glad you mentioned that. I put it in my dock. Back when I first added the Colorzilla extension to Firefox, I had tried DigitalColor Meter, but I must confess, I found the choice between 8-bit and 16-bit a little confusing. Plus, I was in such a hurry, that I didn't take the time to explore the menu, and completely missed the lock and copy feature;- duh. Thanks again.
p- Safari's Web Inspector will display hex if the author used hex when writing the CSS.

12. Re: Preview in Browser not working with Firefox 3.6 [was: Firefox 3.6]
Stuart Haiz Feb 24, 2010 10:09 AM (in response to Mason Oller)I used hex in my css and Safari is still showing rgb values!?
DigitalColor Meter also has a feature in the preferences where you can set it so clicking in the swatch copies the color to the pasteboard - nice!

Great news - Safari 5 now uses HEX colour values!
