    Beginner question - please help

    brit chic

      Can anyone please tell me how to remove the margin of space at the very top of my website? I would like to align the site to the very top and eliminate the grey background strip. Thanks...

            HI! Your problem is probabably the class that you assigned to your body tag.

            .thrColFixHdr #footer p {
                 margin: 0; /* zeroing the margins of the first element in the footer will avoid the possibility of margin collapse - a space between divs */
                 padding: 10px 0; /* padding on this element will create space, just as the the margin would have, without the margin collapse issue */
            }
            <body class="thrColFixHdr">

            either change the style to:

            .thrColFixHdr #footer p {
                 margin: 0; /* padding on this element will create space, just as the the margin would have, without the margin collapse issue */
                 padding-top: 0px;
                 padding-right: 0;
                 padding-bottom: 10px;
                 padding-left: 0;
            }

            or create a new style for the body.

              thanks... I did what you suggested, and the space at the top disappeared in

              dreamweaver but when I pressed f-12 there was still the grey space at the

              top in explorer... am I missing something?

              thanks for replying btw

                Did you clear you cache in IE? And then reload

                  If it does not work in IE when you clear the browser cache and refresh then

                  try this.

                      HI! Add the following into you body tag.

                      cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" margin="0"

                      body should look a bit like this

                      NOTE: It could also be your header style.

                      I am testing it out now. Try the above in the meantime.

                        HI! I got it, Your main container and header have been vertically align top.

                        And I also played a bit with your borders.

                        Just copy and paste it.

                          Thank you guys so much for your help and advice, I had to go to bed to get

                          up with my two year old daughter. Will have a go at fixing it at her

                            Hi Paul...

                            I pasted the code in to replace from line 11 (body) to line 129 (</style)

                            and it changed everything including my side margins disappeared so I CTRL>Z

                            and put it back

                            Am I pasting it in the wrong place? Or should I be pasting the individual

                            pieces of it into each section

                            I also tried the other suggestions about padding and the grey strip is there

                            Thanks..

                              I started another template to see when the space occurred, and it seemed to

                              occur after I put in the logo and HoundOn Holiday name and then pressed

                              enter to create more space under them to put in the menu bar. It was

                              pressing the enter key to make space for the horizontal menu bar that did it

                              Can't seem to undo it without deleting the logo and biz name.

                              .

                                  HI! No its all in the header.

                                  The code is css style so its always in the header.

                                  I inserted the whole page for you but NOTE: Don’t copy the whole page to

                                  your sheet because this is only a generated source copy that I have so other

                                  things are missing ( like flash and images ) so only look at where I

                                  inserted the css style in the header.

                                  Hounds On Holiday is currently seeking loving hosts

                                  and host families.

                                  We’ve all been there. If you have dogs, and you

                                  just can’t leave them in boarding kennels or impose on your family or

                                  friends once again, what do you do?..

                                  And if you love having a dog around but you find you

                                  can’t take on the full-time responsibility of ownership – again, what do you

                                  do?

                                  What we did was to set up our home-from-home complete

                                  pet care service, including collection and delivery to ensure parting is

                                  less stressful for you and your pet.

                                  Many of our pre-screened host families are active retired people who

                                  enjoy the com-panionship and flexibility of caring for their welcomed

                                  house-guest.

                                  Alternatively, our hosts may be home during the day

                                  with children or pets of their own, and a visiting dog compliments their

                                  existing situation perfectly.

                                  *To become a host you must be home full time, but not

                                  24/7 (hosts may not leave the dog 8 -12 hrs/day for a job but short absences

                                  are fine).
