Hello all-
I have a lot of ICC profiles installed on my system (OS X 10.6.2); some are in /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ and some are in ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/.
They are not available in InDesign CS4, even though every other app (including Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat) see them just fine.
Is this a know issue/bug with CS4 and Snow Leopard? I don't recall having this issue on my old machine.
Yes this is a known issue.
Make alias of the Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ and ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folders and put the aliases in the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles folder.
Do not copy the profiles into the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles folder. You can move the profiles to the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles but they will then only be available to Adobe applications. Just make sure that you do not have duplicate copies available to the system and applications.

bpylant Feb 1, 2010 7:23 AM (in response to Was DYP)Sweet, thanks! Works like a charm...
Interesting that this hasn't been fixed in any of the updates...

bpylant Mar 10, 2010 9:19 AM (in response to bpylant)A followup to this issue:
This morning I couldn't launch Illustrator CS4, it kept crashing at launch. Scanning through the OS X crashlog I noticed 511 "Iterative Profile" errors:
### com.apple.ColorSync 0x91e1981d iterateProfilesInDirectory + 1020
I went into my /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder and noticed there was now an alias pointing into Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/, which already contained an alias back to /Library/ColorSync/Profiles to get around the InDesign issue (as described above, which was working fine to this point). This created an infinite loop...
I did not create this new alias... any idea where it might have come from?
(Adobe needs to fix InDesign so it looks in the correct locations for profiles... the user shouldn't have to resort to manipulating aliases to enable profiles that are otherwise in the correct locations, and why do Adobe apps need their own profiles folder anyway????? As with their private Fonts folder, it does nothing but over-complicate matters...)

4. Re: ICC Profiles Not Available in InDesign CS4
Was DYP Mar 10, 2010 10:08 AM (in response to bpylant)AFAIK this alias in the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles pointing to the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/ has always been there. I believe that the Adobe installers put that alias in the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder.
I do not see how a alias would be causing your problem. Are you sure you do not have a bad profile or a duplicate profile somewhere?
Also if you using 10.6 clean your caches as 10.6 has a serious problem with caches becoming corrupted. It also would not hurt to repair permissions. Caches could also become corrupted with older OSs but not to the extent I see with 10.6.

5. Re: ICC Profiles Not Available in InDesign CS4
bpylant Mar 10, 2010 10:47 AM (in response to Was DYP)The alias from the system folder to the Adobe folder was always there, but today there was a second alias in the Adobe folder pointing back at the system folder. This set up the loop... as soon as I deleted the errant alias Illustrator launched just fine. It was definitely the issue...
That been said I will run clear out the caches as well. (I do repair permissions on a regular basis already.)
Thanks!
