1. Re: InDesign -> InCopy HELP!
BobLevine Mar 5, 2010 12:09 PM (in response to kevin.cecil)This SOUNDS like a server permissions issue. If the server isn't permitting a lock file to be written then everyone and his mother would be able to check these stories out.
That said, without really seeing everything up close I'm just guessing. Check the folder the InCopy files are in and look for an .idlk file.

kevin.cecil Mar 5, 2010 12:19 PM (in response to BobLevine)Other files on the original volume are working fine. Suspecting permissions, we moved it to another production server, then to a non-production server running Mac OS X. Same results with all volumes. The issue is reproducable even when the .idlk files are present - it is as though the lock files are not being honored.

BobLevine Mar 5, 2010 12:22 PM (in response to kevin.cecil)Interesting and I'm quite sure very frustrating.
Have you tried unlinking all the IC content and then re-exporting? PITA, I know, but it's all I've got.

BobLevine Mar 5, 2010 12:23 PM (in response to kevin.cecil)Another thought. Can those same stories be checked out by the InDesign user? If not, it is showing more than one person with the story checked out?

kevin.cecil Mar 5, 2010 12:31 PM (in response to BobLevine)Same results when checking out from InDesign, so I am convinced this is a file issue. I just talked to the designer and told him to go ahead and unlink the stories today to make this thing stable and increase the likelyhood this product goes to press on time.
At one point, I had it checked out in InDesign, a co-worker had it checked out in InCopy, and a third person looked at the story and it showed "available for anyone to edit."

glisupport Mar 7, 2010 5:44 PM (in response to kevin.cecil)A packet capture and/or examination of the file (GetMoreInfo/NTFS Streams) used to reproduce the problem compared to another file that behaves properly might provide an explanation as to why this particular file seems to behave differently than others.
GetMoreInfo: http://www.grouplogic.com/files/ez/testingtools/GetMore%20Info.dmg
Packet capture: http://www.grouplogic.com/files/ez/testingtools/EZtcpdump.dmg
NTFS Streams (NTFS Info.exe): http://83.218.232.229/shareware/download.html
If you are a ExtremeZ-IP customer with an active support contract - I'd be happy to take a look:

kevin.cecil Mar 10, 2010 12:39 PM (in response to glisupport)The product made it to the buyer this afternoon. Adobe has a copy of
the file package looking at it, so maybe they can explain what is
going on.
I appreciate your offer, and yes, we have a current support contract
with Group Logic, but as we had the issue on the Mac server as well, I
don't think it is EZIP related.
