Mylenium Mar 15, 2010 1:28 AM (in response to TF22Raptor2)You have contours attached to some of the letters and not to others, most likely. I'd check that as well as any possible issues with compound paths.

TF22Raptor2 Mar 15, 2010 4:41 AM (in response to Mylenium)Hi Mylenium
I'm not sure what you mean my contours? I haven't worked with those as yet as far as I know? What are they?
The text is just plain text, no effects or anything.
Any ideas? -

Mylenium this is what I am battling. This is a view of the artwork (from PDF file at 92%)
Notice the "i" or "I" are not resampled correct and appear too high, wide and fat.
It's visual artefact problem that Adobe Reader has... view at 100% or more and it'll be ok... for some reason, lower case 'L's, cap 'i's and a couple of other letters appear 'bolder' than the rest of the text when viewed at less than !00%. Will print ok too...

5. Re: Strange resizing/resampling once exported to PDF
Larry G. Schneider Mar 16, 2010 9:00 AM (in response to shunithD)For some reason those two letters always seem to be the ones that gain the most when text has been converted to outlines. The easiest way to fix this is to not convert the text. What happens is that the edges are between pixels and the a whole pixel gets added to each edge.

TF22Raptor2 Mar 16, 2010 3:52 PM (in response to Larry G. Schneider)Larry when you say don't convert the text, do you mean don't create outlines?
The client wont have that font on their computer, how else will I do it? -

By remembering to Embed fonts in the PDF. The ability to transfer the right font is an important part of the PDF concept.

8. Re: Strange resizing/resampling once exported to PDF
TF22Raptor2 Mar 16, 2010 4:00 PM (in response to Jacob Bugge)Okay so your saying just leave the text alone. Unfortunatley the client has got to pass on the PDF to other designers, so that's where my concern about still having the ability to change the text comes in.

9. Re: Strange resizing/resampling once exported to PDF
Larry G. Schneider Mar 16, 2010 4:02 PM (in response to Jacob Bugge)When you Save As a PDF in the second dialog box on the left click on Advanced. In the Fonts box on the right, set the percent to 0 from 100%. This will force the entire font to be included. Now if it's an Open-Type font with a lot of extra glyphs it might make the file somewhat larger but will insure that all the information is there for the file to print and view correctly.

But they wouldn't be able to change the text if it's outlined. They would have to identify the font and reset the type.
Unfortunately Illustrator does not have a package fonts feature like InDesign. If you need to pass on the file to another designer for editing in Illustrator, you have to manually gather the fonts used. Or perhaps someone knows of a script or application that does it. (The Collect for Output script seems to collect only images, not fonts).

cirrus7889 Mar 17, 2010 5:35 PM (in response to TF22Raptor2)Just out of curiousity did you by an chance try turning off the "enhance thin lines" setting within acrobat's preferences?
Edit > Preferences > General > Page display
look under Rendering.
uncheck it and have another look.
I hope it helps if you haven't tried it yet.

TF22Raptor2 Mar 17, 2010 6:10 PM (in response to TF22Raptor2)PS Wow I just noticed this forum seems to be running some kind of AJAX photo enlarger. (Click on the image I uploaded in my previous post) and it seemlessly fades open to the larger version. Anyone know if this is a custom adobe website function or the name of the library for it??? I know of similar but not like this one.

cirrus7889 Mar 17, 2010 6:28 PM (in response to TF22Raptor2)what version of acrobat are you using? I'm using acrobat 9 pro.
In any case, I must mention that I have seen that happen in some PDF files that I have come across where I work at. In every case it has been when the file is zoomed to anything below 100%.
Its never been an issue as long as it printed out ok and processed through my RIP ok.
But that is not to say that its not an issue for you.
I hope you find a solution to your problem.

TF22Raptor2 Mar 17, 2010 6:35 PM (in response to cirrus7889)I'm on Acrobat 8 pro. Yeah it's just one of those frustrating ones, when I pump out PDF's to my clients on a lot of occasions they are concerned about the artwork because it simply does not render correctly straight out of the box and they end up ringing me about their concerns and I just tell them to view it at 100%. Would really like to prevent this and for the artwork to render and scale correctly straight up and save all this hassle and concern.

MWorrell Jun 2, 2010 9:30 AM (in response to TF22Raptor2)This issue has been driving me insane for years, as I constantly have to tell clients to ignore it. Just installed CS5 and it's still doing it.
Given that I can bring the same file over to CorelDraw (yes, you heard me right) and it produces a flawless PDF that displays perfectly at any size, I would say that this is a very unacceptable and easily fixed quirk that Adobe does not seem concerned enough about.

ASHUTOSH15 Jun 2, 2010 12:22 PM (in response to MWorrell)If you can somehow pass on the PDF to the forum I can quickly check if the issue is with saving the file or opening the file.

19. Re: Strange resizing/resampling once exported to PDF
ASHUTOSH15 Jun 3, 2010 12:06 AM (in response to MWorrell)My observations
1. This again certainly looks like the issue that cirrus7889 mentioned in the post. Removing the "Enhance thin line" option fixes the problem
2. Issue seems to be with Acrobat than Illustrator and should be reported to Acrobat follow this link: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?event=processform&name=wishform
Sugesstions
- Try not to outline font before sending it to clients rather embed subset before saving to PDF from AI

MWorrell Jun 8, 2010 2:36 PM (in response to ASHUTOSH15)Thanks for your input; much appreciated!
I really need to be able to produce a PDF that displays properly from converted text. I hope they get this corrected some day.
