I am having problems installing Flash player 10.045.
I am running Firefox on 64 bit vista

I go to this page: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/  and click on agree and install now.

“Installing Adobe Download Manager” appears and then disappears.

I end up on this page: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/thankyou/xpi/?installer=Flash_Player_10_for_Windows_-_Other_Browser...

with nothing installed.

When I try to install using a plug in pop up on firefox, I get this error message:

C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Loca\Temp|FP_PL_PFS_INSTALLER-4.exe
The specified procedure could not be found

When I click on manual install, I get this error message:

C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5v5171m3.
Default\extensions\{E2883E8F-472F-4fb0-9522-AC9BF37916A7}\chrome\
Content\getPlusPlus_Adobe_reg.exe
The specified procedure could not be found

It then throws me back to
http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
Which is a page that won’t load.

Thank you.

Hi cliff, Adobe Flash Player is not supported on 64bit. You have to use the 32bit. Here are a couple of links for info.

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/000/6b3af6c9.html

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/532542?s=Flash%20Player%2064%20bit&as=q

Hopefully this info will be helpful to explain the 32bit/64bit issue.

Hi Spencer, maybe it has a "good" bug? LOL, No, seriously I have no idea. I doubt that it was, perhaps you were in 32bit and thot you were in 64bit. I do know that this 32bit/64bit is confusing for users, not only with Flash Player but all over the various Microsoft forums and other forums as well.

Mozilla is saying the same thing. I just go by what the official position is, whether Adobe, Mozilla or Microsoft.

Well, I know I am in 64 bit.  Interesting thing is, is the error msg says the exe file can't be found in the path given.  If you browse to that path it is there, however, when you try to run it, it still will not install correctly.  Either way, maybe it is a bug and adobe/firefox will get it fixed......  will see.

Hi, Not sure what path or error you are referring to as I don't have a 64bit Windows. I do know the Flash Player files are

in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash for both IE and FF and "other browsers"

No one knows when Adobe will have FP available for the 64bit. I don't know why the push for the 64bit when many programs weren't ready. Just a case of the Hardware ahead of the Software, in my opinion.

Thanks for the quick reply, Eidnolb.

Flash player has been working fine on my machine for about a year. I use mozilla firefox. Then, all of a sudden, today, there was an update on flash player to the newest version which I found out through Myspace karaoke.

So the Myspace karaoke player wouldn't launch until I upgraded to the newer version. When I tried to update my Flash player, that's when the trouble started.

Now Youtube doesn't work, either.

When I tried to use flash player on 64 bit Windows Explorer, it never worked from the beginning. But Flash Player on firefox has been fine up until several hours ago.

Is there I site where I can download the newest version of Flash player without useing the Adobe download manager? The download manager seems to be acting strange. It crashes when I am trying to get the newest version. I don't know if that is the problem, though.

Thanks again.

I encountered exactly the same error today.

I am also running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit, but I'm also running 32-bit Firefox.  And Flash Player was working just fine this morning.  However, this afternoon I got a message saying I needed to update it.

I went through all the usual difficulties with Adobe dowload manager, getting the special Uninstall Flash application downloaded and running, then doing a manual download and install of FlashPlayer 10.0.45.2, which Adobe shows as the correct version to run.  (Adobe pages that won't load a second time in Firefox can be loaded after restarting the browser, which indicates the Adobe Web folks have some things issues to correct as well.)

It work just fine in IE, but Firefox sends me off to another Adobe page that shows a Lego icon to click to download the Firefox plugin.  (Remember, this is all 32-bit stuff here.  I'm just replacing the prior plugin.)

The process downloads FP_PL_PFS_INSTALLER.exe into my temp directory, but it dies with the above mentioned "The specifiied procedure could not be found" error.  (Every time you retry, it appends a number to the end of the file name, so the first post above indicates that the error message was generated on the fourth attempt.)

So for now, I've got the updated Flash Player working in IE, but the Firefoxe plugin install routine is definitely (and consistently) broken on Win 7 Home Premium.

And there's no way to "revert" to the prior plugin, so don't consider this issue solved until the install process works on our systems.

Hi Tom, while it is ok to comment on a thread, it would be better for those that need help to start their own thread.

It really becomes too confusing to try to help when more than one person starts discussing their systems etc.

I'm sure you've seen some threads become very long with just one person's issues, let alone more than that.

Just pick whatever subject line you like, state your OS/browser(s).

Thanks,

What I understand you to say is that you want a separate thread for each user with the identical issue.

So Flash player still doesn't work.

Although I was able to download the install_flash_player file and run it. Afterwards it showed up in my programs and features thing as a 2.75MB file vers 10.0.45.2.

But my computer still acts like it isn't installed and any site that requires flash player still goes through the same process of attempting to install and then displaying the error messages.

So at least I don't have an install problem (I think), the pup just doesn't work.

Hi cliff, I have been reading for the last hour and a half. There are quite a few complaints about this FF 3.6 version. I think

this only came out of beta not too long ago. The complaints are various, bookmarks, Java, Norton, personas, and others

that I can't remember since I don't use FF. Many users are upset and want to go back to the previous version. By the way

for those that have Win7 and are having problems with FF and FP, users with Win7 and FF are having other problems not related to FP. I am reading on a site that has 1,000 search results (I searched for "version 3.6 problems")

I have not reached any conclusion yet, but I am seeing enough that there may be some glitch with vs 3.6.

However, several threads are having very similar problems with FF and FP. Time will tell.

Cliff, did you get Flash Player installed?  Another poster did install FP with FF, but can't get the SWF plug-in. Never heard of that before. Did you check the FF plug-ins for the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 to see if it's installed?

Thanks,

eidnolb

Hi Cliff, You had asked  for a site to install FP without the DLM. Following is one that we have been using that

downloads to the Desktop:

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

Now what I would suggest is that you check your Flash Player files first to see what you do have installed.

Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash   Right click on the Flash folder and post back all files listed. The IE

files will be evident (vs 10.0.45.2) FF files the NPSWF32.dll and NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe you'll need to right click on

and click on Properties to get the version numbers.

Then using FF, check in the plug-ins for the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 and is must be enabled.

I would check on those first, as we really don't know what you have installed. You may find out that you need to Uninstall

first.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Yes, Eidnolb, I did get it installed, I think.

But it is not listed as a plugin on FF.

Ever since I tried to install Flash player, firefox has started to act weird (uploading and downloading problems.)

It must really, really want flash player.

Hi cliff, well at least you have made some progress. If you would go back to the Flash folder and right click on the NPSWF32.dll and the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe, click on Properties to get the version numbers. The other files on your

screenshot are correct. We want to confirm that these are the vs 10.0.45.2. Someone said you could just "hover" your

mouse over each of those and it would reveal the version. I think it was Spencer, but it was so late last night, not sure.

What did you think of the info on FF 3.6? Not being a user of FF, I was amazed at the outcry over 3.6.

After you confirm the above NPSWF files are 10.0.45.2, try going to this Adobe test site which should tell you you

need a plug-in. I know in the past from users that I worked with, had the Flash files installed correctly but didn't have

the SWF plug-in for Flash Player in the FF plug-ins. They were able to have that installed this way. However, it didn't

work for Spencer, he got tangled up all over again. I really have never heard of all that is going on with FF before.

http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about

FF was always the least problematic concerning Flash Player.

I am just as preplexed as you and others having this problem.

Hi cliff, thanks for the info. When you went to the test site, did you get the message that you needed the plug-in?

If so , did you follow through?  Also did you check in the FF plug-ins for the SWF and was it there? Only one should be

listed, the latest(10.0.45.2) If there are any others listed, they need to be removed. However, again some (can't remember, but I think Spencer, not sure) said they cannot remove the old SWF. Strange, indeed.

Please let me know about the above. I am trying to get as much information together to determine what is working for

those using FF and what is not working.

Oh, did you want to install FP in IE? I have the offline link for that if you do, just let me know.

Thanks,

Firefox cannot load the page http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about

But chrome opened it right up and said I was using vers 10.0.45.2

I am glad this problem happened. Firefox, even when it worked, was crashing a lot on Myspace karaoke which I use a lot. And it was slow.

With chrome it doesn't crash and it is much faster. Even the porn sites open quicker. And you know how many little pics those sites have. LOL

Hi, thanks. Well I'm glad you have it working.

Would you please check the FF plug-ins to see what version of the SWF you have installed if it is? This is very important

since it appears to be a problem.

I am not sure I understand your question in post #18 and #20.

In my posts #15 and #17 I stated that the files in post #14 which is the contents of C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash) were version 10.0.45.2

Are these the files you are speaking of?

Hi Cliff, thanks for replying. No, not those. That is what I asked and those are the Flash Player files. However  this that I am speaking of is using FF, at the top of the Toolbar, Plug-ins, add-ons, etc. Under plug-ins there should be listed a

plug-in called SWF(shockwave flash) vs 10.0.45.2 which is needed and must be enabled. This has always been the case

with Flash Player and FF.  Just as in IE, in the manage add ons, you must have the Shockwave Flash Object, ActiveX Control vs 10.0.45.2 (Flash10e.ocx) and must be enabled.

Since FF does not use "ActiveX Controls" as IE does, they use "plug-ins".  Flash Player must have these in order to work.

Since a couple of others had all of the Flash Player files installed in the Flash folder as you have now, they could not for

some reason get that SWF plug-in installed for FF.

I just wanted to know if you were successful in doing that.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Cliff, Well, then that is why even though you have all the Flash files for FF installed it is not working. Now these same Flash files also are used for Chrome. The NPSWF files are for "other browsers", not only FF, but all "other browsers" that Adobe Flash Player supports. Very interesting. So that tells me that there is some add on, plug-in that Chrome has installed that is needed for the Chrome browser to work. I am even less familiar with Chrome than I am FF(but am learning more and more:-)

Well, I guess we'll just keep investigating and try to find out what is causing this.

Thanks again,
