1. Re: Scanning to a vector graphic
John Joslin Mar 22, 2010 2:01 PM (in response to dcacrobat)Scan the original, with the Canon software supplied, set to the maximum resolution.
Scanners cannot produce vector images, you would have to use Illustrator to trace the resulting raster image saved from the scan.

Semaphoric Mar 22, 2010 3:19 PM (in response to dcacrobat)In addition to what John said, be sure your scanner is set to scan in Grayscale, not bitmap.
If the Repository is still around here somewhere, you can find some good instructions on how to convert to Vectors in Photoshop.
Anyone know if the Repository IS still around?
[EDIT] Yes it is, here: http://forums.adobe.com/community/general/lounge/photoshop_lounge_repository

3. Re: Scanning to a vector graphic
Bill Hunt Mar 22, 2010 6:23 PM (in response to dcacrobat)There are some dual format scanners, that can scan in Vector, or Raster. I doubt that your's is one of those, so you will be stuck with Raster. Still, as John mentions, the highest resolution (do not bother to use Interpolation - you want the highest native resolution). You can then take this image (I'd go with TIFF) into PS to do pixel-level work, or into AI and use Smart Trace to create a Vector Image.
Good luck,
Hunt
