1. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
Tai Lao Mar 24, 2010 11:38 AM (in response to JACK LARSON)1.— ACR 5.7 has not been released yet; and
2.— even if it had been released, Lightroom does not need or use Camera Raw at all. It uses the same pipeline, but not the ACR plug-in at all. In other words, you cannot "upgrade" LR to any version of Camera Raw.
Hard to imagine what can be generating that absurd error message you are getting.

JACK LARSON Mar 24, 2010 11:44 AM (in response to Tai Lao)I get the message when I want to send a File over to PS.

3. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
JACK LARSON Mar 24, 2010 11:46 AM (in response to JACK LARSON)PS - my hunch is that this all relates to the new PSCS5 coming out next month. It probably has ACR 5.7 and LR 3 Beta 2 is compatible with it.

4. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
Tai Lao Mar 24, 2010 11:54 AM (in response to JACK LARSON)When Photoshop 12 (CS5) is released, it will in all likelihood be using Camera Raw 6.x, definitely not 5.7.
Your hunch is off.

5. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
Tai Lao Mar 24, 2010 11:56 AM (in response to JACK LARSON)What is likely, though, is that Camera Raw 5.7, hosted by Photoshop 11 (CS4) will be able to recognize adjustments made in Lightroom 3.x.

6. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
JACK LARSON Mar 24, 2010 12:02 PM (in response to Tai Lao)For what it is worth, I never had a single problem with the original LR 3 Beta. I worked flawlessly.

7. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
JACK LARSON Mar 24, 2010 12:04 PM (in response to JACK LARSON)PS - round-tripping from LR2 is smooth as silk.
-
8. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
sizzlingbadger Mar 24, 2010 1:00 PM (in response to JACK LARSON)When LR3 is released there will be new ACR plug-in for CS4/CS5 so that the round tripping will work.

9. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
JACK LARSON Mar 24, 2010 1:06 PM (in response to sizzlingbadger)My biggest problem is that I cannot save my work in PS back to Beta 2. I get a message saying that Beta 2 could not read the saved file. My work around is to go into Bridge, duplicate the Tiff file which has the work done in PSCS4, then Import the Tiff Copy into Beta 2. It's a pain in the neck, but it works.

10. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
sizzlingbadger Mar 24, 2010 1:50 PM (in response to JACK LARSON)You should not be using B2 for real work, its a Beta for a reason
When the real version 3 is released there is no guarantee that your work on the Beta will be compatible and you will lose it all.

11. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
JACK LARSON Mar 24, 2010 1:58 PM (in response to sizzlingbadger)Agreed. I always have been lucky with Beta versions in the past, but not this time. Being unable to Import files into Beta 2 renders it worthless to me.

ssprengel Mar 24, 2010 2:52 PM (in response to JACK LARSON)What type of file are you saving out of PS? Maybe it is just a compatibility option in the PSD or TIFF that is not set right.

zacharyalexstern Mar 28, 2010 12:10 PM (in response to JACK LARSON)If you just pick "render with lightroom", when you get that error, everything works fine.
-
14. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
JACK LARSON Mar 28, 2010 12:34 PM (in response to zacharyalexstern)I haven't been getting the error message for a few days. But when I was getting it, everything was not fine. When the file came back from PS, none of the work done in PS showed up. ( However, it all showed up in Bridge.)

15. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
Infinite13 Apr 2, 2010 9:26 AM (in response to JACK LARSON)Same problem as the first post. I right click on an image and hit edit in photoshop cs4 and up pops the message saying I need camera raw 5.7. I then tried to find it and ended up here. If I hit continue anyway it's able to open it in photoshop but I have no idea if the reimport works properly or not yet.
This never happened with the first beta.

Wolf Eilers Apr 2, 2010 1:24 PM (in response to JACK LARSON)DPReview's review of the EOS 550D mentions using Adobe Camera RAW 5.7 beta for their raw conversion tests.

JACK LARSON Apr 2, 2010 1:54 PM (in response to Wolf Eilers)Unfortunately this ACR 5.7 beta is not available from Adobe Labs or Adobe.

It will be soon...seriously. There were a LOT of new cameras that needed support in this time frame so while the ACR/LR engineers would love to get 5.7 out the door, it's better to get the REAL 5.7 done properly and released for the new cameras. It provide a bit of disconnect to Lightroom 3 beta 2, but it ain't like Lightroom 3 cost you anything, right? I mean it is "BETA" right? "Testing" is what you are supposed to be doing...

ssprengel Apr 2, 2010 6:54 PM (in response to Jeff Schewe)By "disconnect" do you mean the scheduling wasn't synchronized, or that LR3b2 won't have as many new cameras?
-
21. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
JACK LARSON Apr 2, 2010 6:56 PM (in response to Jeff Schewe)Am not particularly anxious. The colors in LR 3 Beta 2 are just great. I figure that when I send it over to PSCS4 to do a little additional work, the equivalent of ACR 5.7 is imbedded. So unless I read it entirely wrong, I am working with what will show up in ACR 5.7. I just do it in LR 3 Beta 2 and not ACR.

I mean disconnect in that ACR 5.7 wasn't released when LR 3 B2 was...and I suspect ACR 5.7 _WILL_ have more cameras supported than LR 3 B2...but LR 3 GM will have prolly all the cameras 5.7 has. The odds are, not unlike CS4 with Camera Raw 5.0 and ACR 4.6 when CS4 was released, Adobe had to release a new ACR 5.x shortly AFTER CS4 was released because there were cameras released after 5.0 was locked in.

23. Re: Camera Raw 5.7
sizzlingbadger Apr 2, 2010 7:41 PM (in response to JACK LARSON)The PS plugin ACR 5.7 (or whatever version gets released) will read the xmp data (created by Lightroom adjustments) and render the file the same as Lightroom.
The colours in LR3 beta are no different to LR2 as far as I can tell. There is too much cyan in the Nikon 'Adobe Standard' profiles. This mainly effects skies for me and anything with something red. If you push the blue hue about +10 in the calibration sliders it helps a lot.
The 'about' splash screen for LR3b2 shows Camera Raw version 6.0, this gives you a few clues as to what may happen.
I have created custom profiles for the D300 & D700 if you want to download them for free they are here http://www.nikplayer.com/Blog.html

rob_adams Apr 4, 2010 7:25 AM (in response to JACK LARSON)On the same menu as "edit in", you'll see "export". You can export the file as a psd or dng and then open in CS4.
