c.pfaffenbichler Mar 30, 2010 9:18 AM (in response to on5lb)If You want to move the Background Layer’s content You may have to convert it to a regular Layer (double-click it).
Or are You talking about the display?

on5lb Mar 30, 2010 11:25 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Hello,
Thanks for your reaction,
In fact, when i open the same image (or any one) into Photoshop CS3 or even CS2, the image is included inoi a frame, right, which i can move and open, tho make some clear space around the image.
When i open the same, or any other, image into Photoshop CS4 extended 32 or 64 bits, thete is no frame ad all, and the image is freesen into the center.
Is that the usual way of CS4, or am i missing something ? CS4 Extended is new for me !
Regards,
Jean

John Joslin Mar 30, 2010 2:14 PM (in response to on5lb)I use SnagIt. It's so much better than Print screen or the snip tool.
Try it for free: http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp

To permanently avoid the situation go to Edit > Preferences > Interface > Panels and Documents and uncheck Open Documents as Tabs.

on5lb Mar 31, 2010 5:55 AM (in response to John Joslin)May thanks for your help John !
I followed your advice, and downloaded SnagIt.
I used Arcsoft before, which is included with the drivers for Canon Flat Scanner, but has limited options.
I also followed your advice unchecking *Open Documents as Tabs*.
It's difficult to know"exactly" how to configure all the several options from "Preferences".
Is it somewhere detailed how to proceed ? Not in the "Classroom in a Book" anyway !

Jean

There is no right way. The settings you make are dependent on both your computer hardware and its capabilities and also on the way you work and the functions you use.
That's why they are called "Preferences"

Sorry for your time,
No problem – we are here to help.
If you post your computer specs there are some things that can be defined.
for example:
Operating System/version
Photoshop version number
Amount of RAM installed
Hard drive(s) capacity and free space
Make and model number of video card -

on5lb Mar 31, 2010 7:37 AM (in response to John Joslin)Right, i accept you proposition
Be aware i'm in computer environment since 1976 ( yes sir !)
Started learning all languages from that time: Basic, Fortran IV, Cobol, Fortran 77, Pascal, C/C++ (my favorit !).
But...because of business duties, i stopped in 1993 with programming.
As a manager from a High Tech company (Industrial Quality Control) using Vision Systems Integration, i lost the evolution !
To day, i'm "partially" retired, and do have more time to spend with computers, that's why i need help !
So, my computer (home made, as usual), has the following cofiguration:
Asus P6T WS Professional motherboard;
Intel i7 965 core extreme 3.2HGz with Noctua cooler from Austria (great: 9 blades at 900 rpm)
12 GB DDR3 (Tripple at 1600)
nVIDIA Quadro FX 4800
One 147GB VelociRaptor bootable using Windows 7 64bit Professional (not sure it's a good idea) !
Two Seagate SAS 450GB (storage)
Plus all possible applications...!
I use it mostly for personnal images.
