1. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
Joel Cherney Mar 29, 2010 5:12 PM (in response to [Jongware])This is hot stuff. Of course, GREP validators are a dime a dozen, but I think that an ID-specific GREP validator written by Jongware has to be the best addition I've seen to ID since GREP itself.
CS5? What-ev-er! Can't be bothered.

2. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
seuzo Mar 29, 2010 7:03 PM (in response to [Jongware])This is good script.
However, InDesign crashes when Japanese is input.

5. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
[Jongware] Mar 30, 2010 1:31 AM (in response to seuzo)Heh -- one of the few things I cannot test, with my bog standard English version ...
Can you explain what exactly happens? Doesn't it allow Japanese to be entered in the dialog (which could be an Extendscript problem), or does it crash when you enter Japanese in your GREP box and then run the script?

seuzo Mar 30, 2010 2:22 AM (in response to [Jongware])Thank you for your reply.
Please look at this movie:

1) Copy & paste, ASCII only.
-->OK
2) Copy & paste, is in Japanese Character.
-->change font -->OK, no problem
3) input Japanese Character by input method.
--> InDesign is crash.
#when general(other script) dialog box then it is not crash.

Nice job, though, Theunis.

8. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
[Jongware] Mar 30, 2010 2:49 AM (in response to seuzo)Ouch! But it doesn't appear to be a problem with my script .. (which is good for me but not for you...).
If you run another script that uses the ScriptUI interface, does InDesign also crash? Try http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/grep_editor.html.

[Jongware] Mar 30, 2010 3:07 AM (in response to pkahrel)> jsxbin! Aww...
Quite.
It's at present not really an example of "good javascript" -- messy, full of exceptions. It does the job, however, which is why this is working a 0.1 version.
The code really needs cleaning before I'm confident to show it!

11. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
ArcRaj Mar 30, 2010 3:56 AM (in response to [Jongware])Hai Jongware,
This is very useful script for me and the explanation giving is easily understandable, is it possible to fix an alert when the given GREP expression is valid or invalid?
Thanks,
ArcRaj

12. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
[Jongware] Mar 30, 2010 4:07 AM (in response to ArcRaj)Good idea -- the script can tell whether the expression was correct or not when it is done, and issue a warning when it is not. I'll take a look at that.

Eugene Tyson Mar 30, 2010 5:49 AM (in response to [Jongware])Soooo.. looks coooollll. How do I get it to work in CS3 on Windows..........
Good job Jongware - it looks great. Hope I can get it to work though.

14. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
[Jongware] Mar 30, 2010 6:18 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)Sorry Eugene, had to let CS3 go.
(I took special care not to mention it anywhere, but it seems it's still at the bottom of the web page.)

15. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
Eugene Tyson Mar 30, 2010 6:43 AM (in response to [Jongware])Ah ok - I guess scripts for CS3 will become less and less in a few weeks time when CS5 ships anyway.

16. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
P Spier Mar 30, 2010 7:28 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)Have you uncrossed those fingers yet so you can earn some cash? CS4 was a big boost to my productivity, and I'd bet CS5 will be a good buy for you as a CS3 user, no matter what the cost, since it can only expand on what you're missing now.
Lets' see, at tuppence per hour, it would take about a week to earn 1 Pound, so if you could cut your working time by 20%... You could afford the beer you'd suddenly have time to go down to the pub to drink!

17. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
Eugene Tyson Mar 30, 2010 7:50 AM (in response to P Spier)Well I will be upgrading to CS5... so there
CS4 and the text import problem with styles was a major stumbling block in updating last time. And by the time they fixed it it didn't seem very important to update to CS4 at that point, as the workflow really didn't need it and it was about a year after release.
Basil was released in October 2008 right? And 6.04 wasn't released until September 2009? Right... that's like nearly a year in fixing that!
But CS5 is must after skipping CS4. But I think I'll wait 30 days, then get the trial and try that for 30 days, and then see where we're at with bugs and the workflow that I use.
I'm still waiting hopefully for headers that straddle columns, and footnotes that can straddle columns, waiting patiently. I know Harbs at www.in-tools has a wonderful power headers thingy. But I've been waiting for years for those things.
Let alone an improvement in footnotes as a whole.
I'll be upgrading cautiously because I really can't afford the workflow to suffer because of InDesign buggyness.
Anyway back to Jongwares brilliance

Pornographic? Not so much.

20. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
Joel Cherney Mar 30, 2010 11:59 AM (in response to P Spier)Pretty sensitive content filter there, to find my single related post with the word "hot" in it and exclude the referenced page within a single biz day...

21. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
Eugene Tyson Mar 30, 2010 12:00 PM (in response to John Mensinger)There seems to be a reference to nudity and sex and some sort of cartoon image on the main site, so maybe that's it?
I have no idea what the rest of Jongware's site is about?

22. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
John Mensinger Mar 30, 2010 12:19 PM (in response to Joel Cherney)Heh...pretty fine line between sensitive and unreasonable.
For what it's worth, this filter is branded "Fortinet,' and it allowed me to request a review of the site's categorization, which of course, I did.

23. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
[Jongware] Mar 30, 2010 2:52 PM (in response to Eugene Tyson)So that's what you get, for helping a guy out deciphering an obscure image format -- obscure pictures, and a nudge-nudge-wink-wink rep to boot! Killed the page, the images, and the references to the images.
... I bet it takes forever to get my reputation cleansed.
The main part of my site is dedicated to a 1993 space game -- can't get more innocent than that, can it? (Although it does involve trafficking, mercenaries, and pirates. Perhaps that gets filtered on as well -- hi, Big Brother! Are you watching me?)

25. Re: [CS4] Ann.: What the GREP!?
Eugene Tyson Mar 30, 2010 3:04 PM (in response to [Jongware])I wasn't complaining about it... the more the better imo.
I don't recall that game though, it looks cool. I really loved the old style games and used to play for hours on the Spectrum 48k all through the 80's and then onto the Mega Drive in 1994. That's right I had the Spectrum for 10 years and I think I still have it, it still works to the best of my knowledge?
But I would spend hours writing programs in Binary and things like that. From the age of 6 to about 14 I would rent books from the library on how to write programs in Basic. But all that is gone out of my head now and I have not done anything since then, in about 16 years. Boooo.
Anyway, it's a fun site, and at first I thought it was a mastercalls in Astrophysics, until I examined the images and realised I didn't know any of the planets or star systems or galaxies mentioned. At that point I was lost and looked around the site and saw the references in the cartoon and code. Then someone asked about the site registering as pornographic and I just thought that might be it?
But you know, I really love retro-gaming, so much so I have Spectrum 48k emulator on my PC.

Can you send me an e-mail on indigrep.com. I would like to know if we can adapt your script in french. If you are interesting, of course.
Thanks.
