    Cutting out an animation from a background

    rtarkovski Level 1

      Hello! I'm a flash noob and I just created my first animation of a plant "growing up", following the tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyUhrR4wLoA. It worked wonders: I basically drew a few lines, transformed it to symbol, created a new mask and script layer, and just used a brush to cover a part of the image on every frame in order to give the illusion of appearance. However, I don't need a background, I just need to cut the animation and make it an independent SWF. Any help to solve this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

          You cannot remove a background directly in Flash. however what do you intend to do with the Flash once it is completed ? put it in some Html page ?

          In that case, in your HTML page, do the following 3 step in the <object> section of your Flash script:

          1. Add the following parameter to the OBJECT tag:
             <param name="wmode" value="transparent">

          2. Add the following parameter to the EMBED tag:
             wmode="transparent"

          3. Edit all <param name="wmode" value="opaque"> and replace the "opaque" (or whatever it may be) with "transparent"

          You will have a flash with transparent background working on all navigator.

          It should look something like this: ( I've put in bold the part that interest you.)

          <object id="FlashID" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="950" height="580">
                <param name="movie" value="Video/Menu.swf" />
                <param name="wmode" value="transparent">
                <param name="quality" value="high" />
                <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
                <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0" />
                <param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
                <param name="embed" value="wmode=&quot;transparent&quot;" />
                <param name="selectable" value="false" />
                <param name="border" value="0" />
                <param name="embed" value="border=&quot;0&quot;" />
               <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="Video/Menu.swf" width="950" height="580">
                  <param name="quality" value="high" />
                  <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
                  <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0" />
                  <param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
                  <param name="embed" value="wmode=&quot;transparent&quot;" />
                  <param name="selectable" value="false" />
                  <param name="border" value="0" />
                  <param name="embed" value="border=&quot;0&quot;" />
                  <div>
                    <h4>Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.</h4>
                    <p><a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"><img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" alt="Get Adobe Flash player" width="112" height="33" /></a></p>
                  </div>
                </object>
                </object>

          Hope that help

            Thank you very much for your kind information. I need to cut out the animation directly from the SWF file, as i will be converting it to another video format (most likely flv or wmv). Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

              You are welcome

              however i cannot assure you this will work if you are not using the SWF generated by Flash.

                Thanks! What I want to to is to cut out the animation directly from the FLA file before using it in HTML or any other language. I'd then convert it to FLA, AVI or another format. If there's a trick to put it first in SWF with its original background in HTML and then cutting it out from there that would work too. Thanks a lot for your help!

                  You are welcome

                  When i build a flash, what i like to do is put the background ( in flash ) in a Strong green color. Anoying ? yes it is. But it has the bonus to help spot mistake in your placement of your material, and it is wayyyyyy easier to spot mistake like that.

                  Once i'm done and i have my Swf, i go in html and remove the background

                    Thanks. If I do it your way will I then be able to cut out the animation from the HTML and use it independently?

                      I don't think you can do what you are intending to do. What has been described to you so far is merely a way of making the background transparent when viewed in a web page, but as far as taking the swf and cutting out the animation goes, that cannot be done.

                        Maybe you should investigate putting a contrasting colour background behind your animation, exporting from Flash into a movie format like AVI and then keying out the background in an NLE programme (Premiere?) before export into FLV with an alpha channel .
