1. Re: Naming Layers/channels/paths - Spacebar bug
370H55V Mar 31, 2010 1:30 PM (in response to craig cheatham)That's odd.
I've learned from HTML, Javascript, and PHP and now ActionScript that it's best not to put spaces in file names or even layer names. Sooner or later it throws something off. Instead, a dash - or underscore _ works better for separating words in a layer's or file's name.
I realize that doesn't address your specific issue or answer your question, but it's a good practice to get into if your images go beyond just desktop use and into web or Flash.

craig cheatham Mar 31, 2010 1:43 PM (in response to 370H55V)While that's true for internet protocol, it is not an issue internally in PS. It is also not an issue for Mac file names but I agree that it is good file naming "hygene" to not use a space in file names.
I suppose there might somewhere be an issue if one were using using some scripts to perform actions on layers, but this has never been part of my workflow anywhere I've worked.

craig cheatham Apr 1, 2010 10:07 AM (in response to craig cheatham)C'mon, please let me know how many of you (us) are running into this problem!
I have ALL system prefs involving the keyboard turned off. This still happens several times a day.
I think this is an Adobe thing.

ZinaSaunders Apr 1, 2010 3:12 PM (in response to craig cheatham)I don't have a solution for it, Craig, but I can attest to it happening to me on occasion, so you're not alone. It hasn't happened in a while, I think in the past what I've done is restart Photoshop. Sorry I haven't anything more useful to offer.

Wade_Zimmerman Apr 3, 2010 5:29 AM (in response to 370H55V)Well it is not normal behavior I think it is your settings folder so
1. Quit Photoshop
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a new preferences file.der that needs to be tossed.
Also the is a Photoshop Paths folder as well and you might want totoss that as well also located in your users preferences as well as the com.adobe Photoshop CS 4.plist.
If those re not the problem try updating any Microsoft software if you have any.
And possible this could be related to some kind of conflict some users have with Firefox quit Firefox if you use it and see if that solves the problem.

9. Re: Naming Layers/channels/paths - Spacebar bug
Ric Cohn Apr 4, 2010 12:51 PM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)I've sporadically had this happen to me. It has happened on both CS3 and CS4 with both 10.4.x and 10.5.x, on several different computers. Although the glitch is annoying, it has always gone away on its own, so I've never spent time troubleshooting. Next time I'll definitely look to see if Firefox is open. Thanks.
