3. Re: how to manage permissions?
Brad Lawryk Apr 14, 2010 8:32 AM (in response to dajoker3651651)I don't believe Dreamweaver is the problem. I don't ever recall anywhere that have read or experienced DW changing permissions. I don't even know how it could automatically. What are the permissions being changed to and what do you have to change them back to?
Sounds like you are working directly with the file on the server though? Downloading the site to your local machine and working on the files from there and then just uploading the file you are working on would prevent this.

Brad Lawryk Apr 14, 2010 8:43 AM (in response to pziecina)Wow, thanks PZ.
I used Vista right up until a few months ago, used it pretty much since Vista was released and never experienced that even once or even knew there was that problem.

6. Re: how to manage permissions?
dajoker3651651 Apr 14, 2010 8:49 AM (in response to Brad Lawryk)i am using the file directly off the server. what it is doing is the everyone permission on the file is being removed. for example the everyone permission could be set to read and write and i would save the file and that specific permission would be removed. i am working with the file and viewing it in a internet browser and i need the everyone permission to be able to work with it. i am working on a school server and i am limited to what i can do and cant do.

pziecina Apr 14, 2010 8:54 AM (in response to dajoker3651651)Hi
You may have to contact your server administrator to get the file permissions set correctly, as there is not much you can do 'locally' if the server is 'locking' the file.

dajoker3651651 Apr 14, 2010 9:02 AM (in response to pziecina)the only problem is that this didnt start happening right away. A couple months ago it was working fine and all of a sudden started doing this.

9. Re: how to manage permissions?
pziecina Apr 14, 2010 9:04 AM (in response to dajoker3651651)Hi
It is a random problem and something as simple as an update to either the server or your local os may trigger it.

Yeah thats what I figured. Unfortunately there isn't a lot you can do then. Is this part of a class?
If so, they should be able to let you download the site to your computer and work on it there and then upload your changes. If they are teaching you to work directly on the server - my advice is to change schools (lol, just kidding). But working directly on the server is not a good practice to get into.
Or is this a site that several students are working on? Then thats a different story altogether ....
