1. Re: Shift key not working - usual fixes not working
Jimmy Alenius Apr 21, 2010 4:34 AM (in response to linziloop)Hi! I just got this problem too. Very strange. Is Illustrator the only Adobe product on your computer? I'm running Production Premium suite (CS4) and I have had some small, odd events that was fixed only by reinstalling the application that was problematic. Can it be an update problem?

Jimmy Alenius Apr 21, 2010 4:38 AM (in response to Jimmy Alenius)Ok, now it's working. I started Illustrator with shift+ctrl+alt pressed and then it worked.

Wade_Zimmerman Apr 21, 2010 4:44 AM (in response to Jimmy Alenius)Both of you are having an unfortunate issue you can help the forum folk by telling us something about your system and hardware and applications you have install.
I can tell you on both the mac and Windows platform there are a couple of plug ins and third party software that might cause this I think one was called Zume or Zune but there were a couple.
Quicken of course and there is another popular software on the Windows platform as well.
But I can only guess with the no information about the system. You should always give the most amount of information and least amount of conjecture as possible.
Of course one of the most common thing to try is to reset the preferences.

Jacob Bugge Apr 21, 2010 4:59 AM (in response to linziloop)linziloop,
Seemingly, it may be solved by deleting the preferences (Ctrl+Alt+Shift = Cmd+Option+Shift).
If it is a software conflict, so far the list of possible offenders contains the following (mix of Win and Mac):
- Quicktime/iTunes,
- Quicken (Widget),
- Entourage,
- Google Earth,
- Zune,
- Some Firefox Add-ons,
- Spotlight (shortcuts),
- Fetch,
- Hulu,
- Cocktail,
- Cinch:

linziloop Apr 21, 2010 5:16 AM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Sorry Wade, i forget that having the system i use in my user profile doesn't show up when posting. I'm using Mac OSX 10.5.8, and running CS3.
As i have mentioned previously. simply trashing the preferences on this occassion isn't working, has before, but not this time. The only other things i have running are InDesign, FireFox, and Acrobat .

There are some troublesome Firefox Add-ons.
You may also have a look at the full hints here: Move the folder or Other options

Wade_Zimmerman Apr 21, 2010 5:40 AM (in response to Jacob Bugge)In addition I believe having Zune installed period cause this so it might be such a thing of having then installed at all is the problem I believe is the case with Quicken as well.
These developers could probably fix he problem but haven to seen fit to do so.
Entourage will be replace in the next issue of Microsoft Office as well because of the problems it has caused.

Jimmy Alenius Apr 21, 2010 5:43 AM (in response to Jacob Bugge)I'm on Win7 64bit. I was uninstalling Firefox plugins right before this happend, so it could be a little possibility that i could be the case here. I uninstalled the UnMHT, Xmarks and a bookmark utility I can't remember the name of.

9. Re: Shift key not working - usual fixes not working
Wade_Zimmerman Apr 21, 2010 5:52 AM (in response to Jimmy Alenius)That would have been useful to know.
it really is helpful if you tell us what happened because there can be circumstances that might be out of the ordinary but still known.
Perhaps downloading a fresh copy of firefox and leaving it be would be a good idea.

linziloop Apr 21, 2010 6:47 AM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Ah, sneaky firefox add ons hey, what a shame i really like and use (a lot!) some of my firefox add ons...perhaps I'll just remove the most recently added ones and see how i get on as i never had this problem until i opened Illusrator up (after not using it for a while) yesterday...
