In the present version of FB (i.e. FB 4 onwards), you can already connect to a remote PHP service with Data/Services panel. Just give the path to the webroot and see if it has required permisions. Thereafter you can introspect, test operation, bind data etc etc as usual.
Please let me know if I misunderstood your query.

Anand Gaurav.

hi,
How do you connect to the path of the web root when it needs to be a physical/mapped path ?, I must have missed a really big change in FB 4's DCD for php if I can talk to my remotes servers hard disk directly without some sort of vpn arrangement

FB needs to have access to the PHP file providing the service.
In order to connect to a remote PHP service file, this has to be through some mapping of a network location as network drive etc.

Hi,
I think the whole point is that you shouldn't need to have drive mapping to create your services, you should be able to connect to the db and get your vo's and services generated.
I don't believe that development should be done on a remote server, but you should be able to at least do introspection and even setup the localhost database without work arounds like vpn.
David.
