Colin Brougham Apr 26, 2010 12:56 PM (in response to Another Photographer)If you buy CS4 after the announcement of CS5, you get a free upgrade to CS5 when it ships... which by all accounts, should be any day now. The CS4 trials are no longer available, and it'll probably be a few weeks before the CS5 trials are available; they always seem to take awhile to be released.

Stan Jones Apr 26, 2010 1:09 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)Here's one option: CS4 for $100 less than their CS5 price, ships now, and you get CS5. Frankly, if you just start working on CS5 tutorials on the web, work through the help file (on line now), you'll just be ready when CS5 ships.

I finally made the move - to CS4 - I get the upgrade from CS3, and then CS5. Paid $200 less than it would have cost me to go from CS3 to CS5. Now I can work on the thousands of dollars I need to upgrade my hardware for CS5.
Edit: I see your "academic" note. I suspect not, but someone knowledeable will add a note.

pmasters8941 Apr 26, 2010 2:37 PM (in response to Stan Jones)According to last week's "Ask An Expert" connect session, we were informed that trials will be available the same day the packages ship instead of the past cycles of releasing it 30 days after release. So for those that want to give it a spin will be able to do so the same day it ships. Hope this clears up any trial confusion and availability.
