1. Re: Opening CS4 projects in CS5 error with Canon 5D footage HELP!!!
remainz May 10, 2010 4:17 AM (in response to remainz)Just to be a bit clearer, any CS5 project that includes imported CS4
sequences will not open.

remainz May 10, 2010 4:34 AM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Ok thanks
Im not sure that that is the problem and its not very clear. My footage is H264 quicktime which is not MPG or AVCHD but is a third party plugin.
It all works fine in a new project but will not let me open CS4 project or saved CS4 imports in CS5. That is quite different from " CS5 does not include some features".
As far as I can see this is bug and an incentive not to buy yet!

4. Re: Opening CS4 projects in CS5 error with Canon 5D footage HELP!!!
remainz May 10, 2010 4:44 AM (in response to remainz)Yes it seems that when its an unsuppoerted codec it gives a different error.
"The file has an unsupported compression type"
So this is an issue with CS5 and not a demo limitation!

5. Re: Opening CS4 projects in CS5 error with Canon 5D footage HELP!!!
remainz May 10, 2010 5:46 AM (in response to remainz)I have found a work around.
Import 1 CS4 sequence at a time and then copy and paste them to a new CS5 sequence timeline. Then delete the old sequence, save and reopen.
Not a pretty solution but it works.

Bill Hunt May 10, 2010 9:25 AM (in response to remainz)Well, truth be known, it is MPEG, but a variation of it. This Wiki-pedia Entry might be useful.
Good luck,
Hunt

PaulieDC May 10, 2010 8:12 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)remainz, I have a 5D Mark II and tonight I got my "Order Has Shipped" notice for my CS5 Suite upgrade... if you don't an answer in a couple of days, I'll get mine installed and run it through the mill. I already went through the pains 18 months ago with CS4 and my 5D2, this time will be easier.

PaulieDC May 10, 2010 8:15 PM (in response to PaulieDC)DOH! Just read your last post. Good job Sherlock! I'll jot this fix in my notebook. Generally, deleting and recreating a timeline is a fix that works.

9. Re: Opening CS4 projects in CS5 error with Canon 5D footage HELP!!!
thinkingmanhawaii Nov 10, 2010 7:00 PM (in response to remainz)Yes, this is an intermittent issue with CS5. Somehow, there’s a problem wherein certain commonly-used codecs suddenly remove/disable themselves. I had this problem, and it was driving me crazy as I couldn’t open anything, and it was just way, way too much work to recreate. So I opened up a new project. Lo and behold, the program suddenly informed me that there were codecs that needed to be installed. Codecs which, I’m sure, have been installed already, but obviously Premiere knows that they’re missing. Allowing the program to install them, and then allowing it to quit itself, and then reopening the program again enabled Premiere to open all of my projects again.
