I have a new computer, Windows 7 and IE8. I keep installing FlashPlayer and it says the installation was successful but when I try to use it I get an error message that it requires FlashPlayer. When I go to uninstall it's there, but it's not listed in my programs. I've tried changing security settings, but hasn't worked. Please help!

Good Luck.  trying

for  four days. If you accomplish instalation please let me know.

I installed flashplayer 10_1_rc4_activex_05010

                                  '  ''     ''     debug_activex_05010

                                  "  "    "       plugin_05010

So far seems to be working.  I'm not an expert.

Go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ - can you see the Flash animation and some version information under it?

Open Windows Explorer; what files do you have in %WINDIR%\system32\Macromed\Flash (%WINDIR% being your Windows folder, e.g. C:\Windows)?

Is your Windows 7 64-bit?  If so, are you using the 64-bit version of IE8?  (You must use the 32-bit Internet Explorer to install and use Flash Player.)

I really appreciate your help but I have no idea what this means. I went to

Start and typed in C:\Windows and it brought up a bunch of files but that

one with the %WINDIR thing wasn't there.

I went to Internet Options on the help menu and it says my cipher strength

is 256-bit...not sure what that means either.

Ok, let's try to fix this from the beginning; open this page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

  • download the uninstaller mentioned in section 1 (save to disk);
  • download the executable installer for Internet Explorer from section 5 (save to disk);
  • close all browser windows and run the downloaded uninstaller;
  • reboot Windows;
  • run the downloaded installer.

Now can you see the Flash animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?

Sorry, been to busy to deal with this. When I download the uninstaller,

there's no prompt to save it to disk. It just asks if I want to open, save

or run it, but when I click on Save it doesn't ask to where?

I have no idea why that is, or where that is.  Search your computer for 'install_flash_player_ax.exe'.

The problem is that I can't save it to disk, I can only save it to my

computer. I can't believe this is happening!

In C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash, do you have a file install.log?  What does it contain?

This may be the problem...I don't know how to find C:\Windows/system

32/Macromed/Flash. When I typed it into the search for files field I got

nothing.

Open Windows Explorer, make sure that the address bar is visible, then type %WINDIR%\system32\Macromed\Flash into the address bar.  Do you have anything in that folder?

P.S. or if you are on a 64-bit system, it should be in %WINDIR%\syswow64\Macromed\Flash

The only thing I can find is a "CONFLICT" folder that contains

FP_AX_CAB_INSTALLER and swflash. Does that help?

No.

Open Windows Explorer;

  • can you see your C: drive?
  • do you have a 'Windows' folder on your C: drive?
  • do you have a 'syswow64' folder under C:\Windows?
  • do you have a 'Macromed' folder under C:\Windows\syswow64?

You have Windows Explorer set to not show known file extensions, so your install.log file only shows as install.  Right-click on it, select Open with... then choose Notepad to open it with.  If Notepad does not appear in the selection, what other programs do show?
