2. Re: Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC Now Available!
Newsgroup_User Apr 3, 2006 1:09 PM (in response to Bill Perry)After a very quick look at the available information, I have a question.
Will there be an update to the Standalone Player? It says on the home page
"Developers can view Flash content within Pocket IE or full-screen using
third-party software, or deploy stand-alone Flash applications, which
requires the Distribution Kit"
Does this mean the Standalone Player is going to be part of the Distribution
Kit? Or is it a part of the Developer's version of the Player available
today?
Thanks for listening Bill,
Steve

Newsgroup_User Apr 4, 2006 1:04 AM (in response to Bill Perry)Great news.
I immediately downloaded it and tested all my apps on it.
So far, everything looks fine.
I now have to test this FLV progressive download thing.
Can't wait.

Newsgroup_User Apr 4, 2006 9:32 AM (in response to Bill Perry)Any word on FLash 7 playe supporting % sizes instead of pixel only? Or is
this a limitation in PocketIE that cannot be worked around?
What about support for the PocketPC Opera browser that is in Beta now? The
Opera browser is WAY faster than PocketIE and shaping up to be very powerful
and versatile. I've not read anything about plugin support for it though.

Renaun_Erickson Apr 4, 2006 9:42 AM (in response to al77_t)When trying access Flex 1.5 apps, my 700w bonks (iexplore.exe error). I am able to view some flash animations.
I just tested FLV's they play but the devices CPU speed will make a big difference if it works or not. It was way choppy from CPU performance issues. (700w I think is about 312Mhz XScale)
Still having issues with Flex, off to test some more -

I tested it - you still cannot use a % scale :-( 100% is treated as 100
pixels.

Lack of Memory? Doesn't that only have 32 Mb RAM?

The error I got said something about memory issues, but that could be anything. Its definelty a iexplore.exe error caused by Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC. -

Can you check what memory appears available when the player is running and
giving errors? I was working on a project recently that would swallow 10 Mb
of RAM at one point, and even though I was left with 5 Mb of program memory
on that device, it would often (not always) crash at that point - I
uninstalled a couple of apps and freed up about 10 Mb of RAM and the crashes
stopped.

I just tried playing around with camera functionality as well and it appears Flash Player does not pick up that there is a camera attached to the device? Is there no way to access a camera in Flash, or do I have to write a seperate C++ or C# application to gain access to that type of functionality?

skippingjuly Apr 15, 2006 8:03 AM (in response to Bill Perry)Hate to come in as a newb, but I had a quick question.
I support the UTStarcom PPC-6700 for SprintPCS in a call center, and we are receiving calls on using Flash on our devices. This is not a smartphone device, so it would seem that the ver.7 that is currently available should work on this device. I have attempted to download directly to, install to, and drag and drop onto our device via a PC and have not been successful in installing this application.
What is the best way to install this product onto this device, and where in the folder structure does it need to be located to be usable via IE?
Thank you for all your help -

cgrxman Apr 15, 2006 9:00 PM (in response to Bill Perry)skippingjuly,
I own the 6700 offered by Verizon, and was able to download the file to my PC, then use explore in ActiveSynch to open "My Documents" on my 6700. I copied and pasted from the PC to the 6700 and then ran the .cab on the device. -

zarxo Apr 22, 2006 1:34 PM (in response to skippingjuly)I have the exact phone by Alltel, PPC6700 Starcom (brand new). Version six wont work on it. Versiona 7 which has to be downloaded then dragged to the sync folder. It installs fine but it wont load. There is a page on saintleo.com a tutorial example in flash, it connects, begins to load then it shuts the browser completely down. I go to www.fox.com and I get an error telling me to upgrade my version of flash. (fox.com requires flash six or higher. You need to upgrade your Flash plug-in) which then sends me to macromedia.com.
If I load the www.macromedia.com page, it shows the main picture at the top but nothing in flash.
The pocket PC will load this flash: http://www.mediumk.com/array/samp_swf8.html
and this flash with no sound: http://www.webthrower.com/portfolio/essessdemo.htm
The adobe pocket pc reader that I installed works fine.
Any suggestions? -

Their Flash detection script does not recognise PocketPC. You could try
using PocketIE Plus to view it. Set it to identify itself as Internet
Explorer 6 - http://www.reensoft.com/PIEPlus/. Won't work if you have
Winsows Mobile 5 OS, but you can find other tools that can do the same
"identify as IE 6" trick.

The html says this is Flash 5, so it should play fine.
How about this http://www.tomorrows-key.com/PDAdemo/MRTTpda.html ? Does it
work for you?

This is Flash 6, and should also play fine.

The Adobe Reader and the Flash player are not connected in any way, so this
is not important information.

EdwardMarriott Apr 24, 2006 2:25 PM (in response to Newsgroup_User)Hello
I'm a newbie but fairly technically minded and am having difficulty installing FP7 on my windows mobile 2005 device. When I select the download link (the 1.39mb download file) on the device, I just get a browser window with lots of machine code, no save options/ download manager requests etc.
When I click the same link on my pc, I get three files which I can unzip, but they are unreadable by my pkunzip software. What exactly should I do?
Thank you very much in advance

Download the cab file on your PC. Copy it to your PPC. Run the cabfile on
the PPC.

Hi Steve,
It's not part of today's release. The Distribution Kit is under development and will be available at a later date.

Tim - thanks for the response.
I did understand that the distribution kit is not yet available, but I'd
like you to confirm - are you telling me that the Standalone Player is going
to become art of the Distribution Kit, and thus no longer an additional
purchase for developers? Can you please clarify?

paulvisco May 11, 2006 1:31 PM (in response to Bill Perry)Can someone tell me how to use getURL or loadVars with flash player 7 on PPC. I had previously used getURL with flash player 6 but both getURL and LoadVars seem to send nothing in Flash player 7 on PPC.
e.g.
mydata= new LoadVars();
mydata.w = Stage.width;
mydata.h = Stage.height;
mydata.drawing = _root.drawing;
mydata.send(" http://www.myaddr.com", "_self", "POST");
