Harm Millaard May 21, 2010 4:54 AM (in response to Powered by Design)Glenn,
There is nothing about reselling in the System Builder Pack.
It may ONLY be distributed with a fully assembled computer system.
It also must be preinstalled on the hard drive of the fully assembled computer system, using the OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK).
Definitions:
b. Distribution and distribute mean the point in time when a Customer System leaves your control.
Software preinstallation
1. For each unit of Software in the Pack, you must pre-install one copy of the Software on a Customer System prior to distribution. If the Software includes more than one language version, you must install only one language.
I highlight the last words for Adobe, because they have such a crazy installer, that some diligent cleaning up of license agreements, speech recognition modules and other language related stuff in the Production Premium install will result in around 2,000 files removed and 1,600+ directories.
I have repeatedly asked them to clean up the installer, so I don't get license agreements in 42 different languages for each of the programs in the suite.
This current practice makes install times longer, drags down performance, and fills up space on the disk, without any value.
I don't understand that they can not follow Microsofts example as stated above.

Scott Chichelli May 21, 2010 6:18 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)there is no difference in retail vs OEM other than you pay more for OEM.
OEM has to be bought with hardware. (this can be a mouse but it rather streching it)
OEM can be moved from system to system as long as the old one is decommisioned same with retail.
(sort of breaking EULA) and now since Vista if you try to use a copy on 2 systems it will shut off the older.
(unlike XP and prior)
technically you do not own windows...
there is no point to buying retail.
