FuelMe Jun 1, 2010 2:37 AM (in response to FuelMe)One more bump. I can't believe I'm the only one getting awful WMVs with CS5.
Anyone?

3. Re: Awful WMV Quality on CS5
FelixUnderwood Jun 1, 2010 7:02 AM (in response to FuelMe)I have the EXACT same problem with Quicktimes in CS4! I kept my copy of CS3 to make small (about 12mb in file size) QT files for clients to approve HD commercials. If I use the exact same settings between CS3 & 4, I get the same type of results with QTs in CS4 that you get with .wmv's in CS5: horrible. Looks worse than VHS footage in the SLP mode. I haven't migrated to CS5 yet (still in its shrink wrap) because I can't have external monitor ouput from the video card while simutaneously running MPE. I understand I might be waiting awhile! Otherwise, I'd be glad to test your settings to see if I get the same results.

4. Re: Awful WMV Quality on CS5
Stan Jones Jun 1, 2010 9:33 AM (in response to FelixUnderwood)Felix, can you look at a CS3 exported clip and CS4 with Gspot? Any difference?
FuelMe, do you still have CS4 loaded? Can you do the same for CS4 v CS5?
I have to believe that there is a setting difference, perhaps a default that changed?

FelixUnderwood Jun 1, 2010 9:47 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Ignorance Alert! What's G-Spot? I Googled it and got all kinds of stuff that came up that I'll simply blame on the kids if my wife ever sees my browsing history!

Bill Hunt Jun 1, 2010 9:50 AM (in response to FelixUnderwood)Felix,
G-SPOT is a great, free utility for gathering file information. I could not live without it.
Good luck,
Hunt

9. Re: Awful WMV Quality on CS5
FelixUnderwood Jun 1, 2010 11:05 AM (in response to pmasters8941)Sorry. They're both Quicktimes and the bad looking one is the one with the higher bit rate, on the left. Settings: Format: Quicktime 864x480, 29.97, Upper, Quality 100, Video Codec: H.264, Codec Settings: 24 bit, Square Pixel, Render at Max Depth checked, Use Max Render Quality, Set Bitrate: 2500kbps. These exact settings produce a lowsy looking QT on CS4 and a great, HD quality QT on CS3.

10. Re: Awful WMV Quality on CS5
FuelMe Jun 1, 2010 3:47 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Exactly the same. It must be the way CS5 deinterlaces, or some other part of the actual processing.

11. Re: Awful WMV Quality on CS5
FuelMe Jun 1, 2010 3:50 PM (in response to FuelMe)I do want to point out that I only have quality issues with WMV so far. All other formats appear fine so far. Unfortunately MPEG quality and anything generated using iPod/iPhone-appropriate settings still looks bad compared to encoding with, say, Videora, but that's a different story.
