Hello all,
I was running a RH7 HTML course last Friday. They have used Captivate 4 to create an on-screen demo movie.
We inserted this movie into a topic and did a Preview: all OK, looks fine. Then, when we closed the preview, it crashed RoboHelp. The same happened on 3 different PCs - two of theirs and on my laptop. I checked this morning at my office and got the same problem. (It's interesting that it works OK in RH8 when I tested it here, but they're not planning to upgrade till later this year).
Any suggestions?
Hi Philip
To be blatantly honest, it was Adobe who thought of it.
The thing is, I tried your file and saw the issue. Then I was reminded that it was eerily similar to something I had experienced. (Object errors when the Captivate movies play from inside CHM files) and I recalled asking Adobe about it. Had to excavate quite a few E-Mail messages before finally finding the one with the answer.
I think the ID can be anything and isn't specific. It just has to be there. As each page is a different bal

Further information. The customer sent me another Captivate 4 movie, and I get the same crash. Here are the error messages:

Hi Philip
When the crash occurs, is the project open in Captivate? Or are you only dealing with the Captivate output file and the Captivate application is nowhere to be found in memory?

Hello Rick,
Long time, no speak... Hope all is well with you.
They sent me the .swf file, so it was the completed flash movie.
In RH7, I inserted it using menu > Insert > Adobe Captivate Demo. If I could work out how to upload the file with this message, I'd send it to you, it's only 360 Kb. Email?
We didn't have Captivate installed either on my PCs or in the Training Room on site.
Regards,
Philip

No, Attachments in the forums are disabled because of security issues.
You might try using YouSendIt.com. Just send to yourself and post the link here if you like.

Hello Rick,
I managed to find your email address, so I have just sent you an email with two Captivate 4 files as attachments.
Thanks.

Hi Phillip
One thing to try is to edit the HTML and add an ID= attribute to the Captivate code in the HTML page.

Thanks Rick, it worked like a charm. (I wonder why Adobe didn't think of it?)
Can I ask, does the id have to be unique for every Captivate movie in the Help project? Or can it be the same every time?

I think the ID can be anything and isn't specific. It just has to be there. As each page is a different ball game, you should be fine with using the same ID over and over. I might think the only time you would be concerned were if you maybe had more than a single Captivate object on one page.
Happy to help... Rick

Thank you so much, Rick.
I've passed this on. (You would think this would have been fixed way back in RH7).
Question answered. Chalk another one up for Captiv8r!

I know this is an old thread, but just want to thank Rick for posting the solution.
Just adding an ID has solved my problem as well!!
Thanks again
