1. Re: InDesign CS5, can't open file due to plugins problem
[Jongware] Jun 7, 2010 2:55 AM (in response to linziloop)You can ask them if they also have CS5.
If they don't, they will get the standard error "Incompatible file format -- you may need a plugin" (or something like that).

RorohikoKris-u5pUJw Jun 7, 2010 3:03 AM (in response to linziloop)My suggestion would be to re-check with them. Adobe's version numbering is confusing - CS = 3.0, CS2 = 4.0, CS3 = 5.0, CS4 = 6.0, CS5 = 7.0. Maybe they have CS3 (i.e. InDesign 5.0).
Cheers,
Kris

[Jongware] Jun 7, 2010 3:06 AM (in response to linziloop)Oops -- yeah I missed that. Kris makes a good point, though.
It must be something like that because the download version is not crippled or made incompatible, in any way. The download trial is the same as the full version -- if you decide to buy it, you only need to enter the registration code.

linziloop Jun 7, 2010 3:07 AM (in response to RorohikoKris-u5pUJw)Nope, they're a pretty major agency, they definitely have CS5, bought it as soon as it came out.

6. Re: InDesign CS5, can't open file due to plugins problem
[Jongware] Jun 7, 2010 3:12 AM (in response to linziloop)At this point I think we'd need to see the exact error message; if possible, a screen shot, so there are no typos to muddy the waters any further ...

That is not typical of a major agency, in my expereince. Ask them to confirm the version number.

10. Re: InDesign CS5, can't open file due to plugins problem
linziloop Jun 10, 2010 6:38 AM (in response to linziloop)Well well guys, your experience in such matters prevails, after me emailing the agency mentioning again that it is a CS5 file and asking for a screenshot of the problem they came back and said they had figured it out themselves, turns out they are in the process of swapping all the team over to CS5 and the particular member that tried to open this file, was, yes, you guessed it, using CS4. Doh!
Many many thanks for your help!
