Bill Hunt Jun 7, 2010 5:13 PM (in response to Igor Valentovitch)That is the most recommended software for this operation. I'd look closely at it.
Good luck,

2. Re: How to upscale SD footage to HD?
Huntrex Jun 7, 2010 5:19 PM (in response to Igor Valentovitch)You may want to try out Dan Isaac's SD2HD workflow. I've tried it with some SD 720x480 footage and upscaled it to HD 1440x1080. I was really impressed; it remained remarkably sharp and clear. It definitely blows anything Premiere or After Effects could do out of the water (although scaling was much improved in CS5).
This workflow also uses completely free, open-source tools. But, it does take some time to get used to.
1. Download and install VirtualDub
2. Download and install Avisynth
3. Download SD2HD
In the hd2sd_sd2hd.zip folder there will be a .txt file with setup instructions. After everything is installed, create a new text document. Type sd2hd("SD_Master.avi") with SD_Master being the name of your file. It will upscale your video to 720i by default; to change this check out the different parameters you can use in SD2HD.txt in the hd2sd_sd2hd.zip folder. Then save the file in the same folder as your video with an extension of .avs. Then open this file in VirtualDub. You may want to install a lossless video codec such as Lagarith to cut down on the file size; you can select your compression method by going to Video -> Compression. Then go to Video and choose Fast recompress. Now it's time to save your video, File -> Save as AVI.

Igor Valentovitch Jun 7, 2010 7:13 PM (in response to Huntrex)Thank you. I'll try this method though it sounds complicated but I don't have other options at the moment

JSS1138 Jun 7, 2010 10:32 PM (in response to Igor Valentovitch)We did a wedding over the weekend
expected in mid-summer. The bride cannot wait that long
That is a very unrealistic bride. The national average is about 7 months wait time for a professional wedding video. She should consider herself lucky it may only be 2 months.

shooternz Jun 7, 2010 11:04 PM (in response to JSS1138)7 months to edit a wedding video! Yikes!
What takes so long? (The baby could be there before the vid has even premiered!)

Igor Valentovitch Jun 8, 2010 7:38 AM (in response to JSS1138)Ha-ha!
This is true. In this case the bride is a friend. But weddings editing does involve a lot of time - sometimes because of the bride as she insists on changes. I've heard a story when a bride requested for her mother-in-law to be completely cut out of the wedding vid a year after the wedding. It is not easy to eraze the mother-in-law without a trace

Giorgio1957 Jun 8, 2010 12:52 PM (in response to Igor Valentovitch)Harm, Igor: this is a video-editing forum, not a community with murder purposes
After you've found a way to "delete" your mother in law (notice my pc language), try Tmpge XPress from Pegasys.
Surely it will take less time and can "upgrade" more than one clip in only one time.
Negative aspect: it's not free.
About plant, you can try first with Dionea Muscipola, but it's very hard to find it with a "proportional size".
But........ who never knows??????
Ciao

Igor Valentovitch Jun 8, 2010 10:18 PM (in response to Giorgio1957)Thanks Giorgio!
The software you recommended worked nicely. I downloaded the trial version.
Now I need to find the trial version of the plant.

Remember, that's an average delivery time. Meaning it can be longer still.

Why does it take so long?
Cant be very profitable unless its charged out at an hourly rate!

joshtownsend Jun 9, 2010 9:07 PM (in response to shooternz)7 months!!!!! I wish I could tap into that market.
I'm guessing your not saying that you work for 7 months straight on one wedding video, right? So your saying there is so much work out there that your backed up for that long!!
We're do you live? I need to move there and get rich shooting professional weddings. Here in Florida it dog-eat-dog and there a million people shooting and cutting for cheap and I'm not even talking about the amateurs. Real professionals, talented people I know have been cutting rates pretty hard-core.

JSS1138 Jun 9, 2010 10:12 PM (in response to shooternz)Why does it take so long?
I'm sure the reasons will vary with every videographer. That figure is just something I read in an industry article.
