Recommendation for RoboHelp Office X5

I have just started in my new role and our organization has the following environment:

RoboHelp Office X5

Office 2003 - Moving to Office 2007 next year

Windows XP - Moving to Windows 7 next year

IE 6 - Moving to IE 8 in the next quarter

What kind of compatibility issues will I face over the next year as we upgrade our Microsoft applications?  If I move to the latest version of Robohelp, what advise do you have to move my old files from Robohelp 5 or do I need to start over?

Thanks for your help.

Hi bieds-mn and welcome to the RH community.

As far as your MS Office version is concerned you'd need to upgrade your RoboHelp licence when you upgrade to Office 2007. As for your Windows OS, Windows 7 is officially supported for RoboHelp 8. Your IE versions should prove no problem no matter what your configuration.

Column,

Thanks for the reply on the RH Community. Do you have any experience with automatic conversion process of moving files from one version to the next? Do you know can I go from 5 to 8 directly?

Regards,

Mark

Windows 7 official support is on the 32 bit platform only, not the 64 bit platform.

Hi Mark.

Converting a project is as simple as opening it in RH8. As soon as you do so, the application automatically upgrades the project for you. Just be aware that once you do so, there is no going back to the previous version. This is because the underlying code in RH8 is very different. Just make sure you make a copy of your projects before doing anything. You are unlikely to need them but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Make sure you apply both patches to RH8 before you start work.

You may have problems with lists not displaying correctly. If you do find that, see Using RH8 on my site.
