Hi all, using TCS2, linked FM books into RH, Win 7 64-bit.

When I generate Webhelp from RH, the TOC is not expanded automatically. You have to click on the main topic to see all the sub topics, etc. Is there a setting to make the TOC expanded automatically? To be clear - I can see the navigation panel on the left-hand side, but just the main book of the doc appears- I would like to show users how many sub-topics there are below, as soon as they access the help.

I searched the threads but couldn't find anything quite related to this question.

Thanks,

Adriana

Hi there

Usually you will configure the default topic to be a topic inside one of the books you wish to present in an expanded state when the help is opened.

The exact steps will depend on what the output format is.

So the question back to you is to ask what your output format is!

Cheers... Rick

Hi,

Thanks for responding!

My output format is Webhelp; it is hosted from within a secure website, on the Internet. The structure is I have one main 'book', then sub-topics within the main book (chapters), then each chapter has additional sub-topics as well. Ideally, I'd like the TOC to have the main book expanded so you can see all the chapters. I have the default topic set to be the introduction within the main book, but the TOC is still not expanded. I've attached a couple of screen shots - 1 is what it is doing, 2 is what I'd like to see it do.

Hi there

So you have configured the Introduction topic to be the default topic. So far so good.

The next bit sounds odd, as by default things should have been configured so that the TOC Synchronizes with the displayed topic. As you click links in other topics, does the TOC expand whatever book the links are in so that it synchronizes? You want synchronizing on. And it usually is.

Another possibility is to try changing the Speed Optimization so it's set for Local PC or Intranet. It's on a dialog about two or thee clicks in (click Next) in the WebHelp SSL properties.

Hi Rick,

Thanks. It is set to synchronize - it just doesn't expand the whole book (by default). So as you suggested, I set the first topic as one within the book and the first section of the book is now expanded - this helps the function of the TOC to be more obvious. I also included, on that topic page, some screen shots for my end users about how to expand the TOC. That will have to do

Thanks!
