rowby Jun 15, 2010 7:11 AM (in response to Studio North Films)HI
I'm building a similar setup and have some questions about your setup.
Where are you purchasing your 6x 2gb DDR3 OCZ GOLD (12gb)
And I see you are getting 5x WD Velociraptor 150gb, Are they going to be for preview files, etc etc?
Will be looking forward to Harm's and others' responses to your setup so I can take advantage of the Brains here as I fine tune my setup.

7. Re: new build pics
rowby Jun 15, 2010 8:18 AM (in response to Studio North Films)Thanks! That is helpful info.
I'm still trying to figure out what memory I will be getting.
I am wondering if I get just 12 gigs now and I add 12 gigs later (ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366) -- or does all 12 gigs have to be "matched". I think I read somewhere that as long as each of the 24 gigs group matches each other you don't have to have all 24 matched.
Is what I am saying even make sense? (And is there room on the ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 for 12 GB worth of cards to be added now with empty slots for an additional 12 GIGS or do I have to toss the original 12 gigs and get a new set of 24 GIgs because there would be no empty slots left.
Again, am I even making sense of all this?
By getting some good 12 brand 12 GIGS now (rather than cheaper 24 gigs now which might not be as reliable) I can always purchase 12 additional gigs of the same brand in a couple of months.
Heee heee! (I am putting my money in my paypal linked checking account today and it's already burning a hole in my pocket and I want to make my best choices!
I am getting many of the same components as you are (such as the sexy Lian-Li Armorsuit Aluminum Gaming PC Case PC-P80, and Areca ARC-1680D-IX 12-ports SAS RAID Controller) so I look to your specs and the Brains' responses with great intere$t!

Studio North Films Jun 15, 2010 8:26 AM (in response to rowby)Rowby
On your mobo you have 6 slots in total:
because the memory is triple channel you have to use min of 3 memory sticks. so you could get 3x 4gb Memory and buy a further 3x 4gb in the future.
or use all 6 slots and get 6x 2gb (12gb).
If you have the funds, and want 24gb Now. go and buy the kingstion hyper x 1600.
I think it is best to wait for the prices of the 24gb to come down. 12gb should be good for now.

rowby Jun 15, 2010 8:37 AM (in response to Studio North Films)Thanks for that clarification!
BTW are these the Kingston that would give me 24 gigs (if I bought 2 sets -- and I see how that would be Expen$ive!)

Thanks again for all the info on your build, etc...
I'm looking to buy the CHENBRO SK33502 that you are using in your build, but before I do, just wanted to get a review from you--
now that you've been using it a while, do you recommend it?
Thanks!

Studio North Films Jul 15, 2010 3:24 PM (in response to Druyan Byrne)Hi,
the HD enclosure is very good, have not had a single issue, easy to install, and only need 2x molex for power. It does come as standard with a very powerfull 80mm fan. I replaced mine for less noisy, as i am running 4 bays in total and sounded like a jet plane when starting up. With one unit it might not be to bad.
it comes with sata cables, usb cables, and led fault cable for raid cards.
its a very good choice and keeps the hd cool.

Can you tell me, with the Noctua NH-14D mounted on the P6T board, how close the fan on the right side of the cooler is to the DIMM slots?
Can't see in your 2nd photo
Thanks

The noctua Cooler fan overhangs upto the 2nd memory socket, the fan can been moved to clear height of memory, even with the corsair dominator.
