    Can CS5 handle 60fps?

    2drumstix Community Member

Still on CS4, but got new cameras with 60fps modes. CS4 seems to not handle these clips well, when I drop 60fps into a timeline, it wants to render every clip and stalls/crashes when doing it, unlike Hi8 clips from old camera when in timeline are green. Does CS5 play well with 60fps?

      thanks

It handles 720p60 avchd clips fine and has presets thereof - have no experience with 1080p60.

Yes, but your problems start on export. It is a non-standard format and cannot be burned to BRD, not even on the top model of Panasonic.

720p60 is a valid BR format in both mpeg and h.264

                But 1080P 60 is not.

I was just editing 720p60 clips from my Canon 1DmkIV last night.  Dropped onto 23.98 1080p timeline and played back without a problem.  Interpreted footage to play back at 23.98 for the overcrank effect all without rendering on a new computer with CS5.  Coloured in MB Looks gave a red timeline but it still played back just fine without rendering.

To the best of my knowledge 60fps is always recorded at 720p with Panasonic cameras, even their newest 3700 P2 Varicam can only record up to 30fps in 1080p.  Aside from HDCamSR cameras (F23 and SRW-9000) and Red One, I don't know of any cameras recording 1080p 60fps and even those cameras set a base frame rate (usually 23.98 or 24) and an overcrank rate so on playback you're getting the overcrank effect that was intended and strickly dealing with 23.98/24/29.97 in post.

Correct, I have the Pana TM700K 1080p60. Thanks for all the feedback, curious if CS5 has a timeline preset sequence for AVCHD 1080p60?, perhaps if it does then CS5 should be able to handle that file without problem, or the need to render the clips in a timeline, thus not stall/crashing as I'm currently having.

As well, currently my CS4 cant encode a 2min movie of 1808p60 clips with transitions to h.264, it crashes every time. Would prefer h.264 for web over flv.

The TM700K is a great little camera, but doesnt do much good having 1080p60 if I cant work with it. 4 calls to Pana and they cant answer what FPS or if interlace ot progressive the other 4 record modes are (HA, HG, HX, HE), thats pretty bad.

I have tried it out at 1080/60P and it works without problems.

Thats good to hear, did you use a 1080-60p timeline preset? that type timeline is not available in CS4.

Curious, I heard 1080-60p sequence/timelines were only supported on 64bit machines in CS5, is that correct?

This is the CS5 forum for CS5 users that use 64 bit OS, so what do you mean?

Yep I get that, thats why I'm asking CS5 users a question. I read that 1080-60p timelimes were only supported on 64bit machines in CS5, is that correct?

Unless I missed it, this Premiere CS5 forum is not listed as only for CS5 users on 64bit, just says Prem CS5.

Premiere Pro CS5 is 64-bit only.  No 32-bit version at all.

ahh, well there it is. thanks.

Good damn thing I didnt upgrade, adobe reps were sure ready to take my money though. Yeah, perhaps I didnt realize that, my bad for not knowin, but it would have been nice to have been told or reminded when on the phone ready to purchase the upgrade.

                                    Hi.

I have a 64 bit OS and have the evaluation copy of Adobe Premier Pro.  I have the Panasonic HDC-HS700 and I have some video I shot at 1080/60P.

I'm trying to learn to use the Premier Pro, but I do have problems, probaby due to my current lack of experience.

                                    1) The Premier Pro indicates that there is no sound (Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum V10 finds sound in front, rear, center, lfe) I'm still trying to get this to work too.. but at least it finds the sound.

                                    2) The Premier Pro doesn't seem to have a setting for 1080/60P.  The best I've found so far is under the H.264 and that is only around 30 fps...

Can you point me in the right direction, or tell me how to allow Adobe Premier Pro to find the sound and save to 1080/60P?
