John Joslin Jun 27, 2010 3:27 AM (in response to Varus Graves)The name of the "box" is Tool Tip and they are enabled/disabled in preferences.
You could try disabling, restarting PS and then re-enabling and restarting.

Varus Graves Jun 27, 2010 5:34 AM (in response to John Joslin)Thanks for the extraordinarily quick response to my question. Also,
it's nice to know the true name of the small box. I did as you suggested
and will check back if problem persists.

Varus Graves Jun 27, 2010 7:19 AM (in response to Varus Graves)John,
After about an 1 to 1 1/4 hours, Tool Tips stopped working again. Not able to pen it down any better. The thing about a watched pot, I guess. In any event, seems as if the problem was around for some in CS4.

Evidently, not everyone has the problem. Could be the result of some obscure hardware / software combination or maybe a default timeout in XP's Registry.

Exactly what I was going to say!
I have never had the problem so have no way of analysing it.

Noel Carboni Jun 27, 2010 11:10 AM (in response to Varus Graves)Can't say that I've noticed a loss of Tool Tip support either. But next time I run Photoshop all day I'll check for it.

SusanSherman Jun 30, 2010 10:54 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)This happens to me all the time. For me, it is after 90 minutes (yes, I've timed it) of continuous use of PS (CS4). I don't usually have to turn it off, restart and turn it on, restart. A simply close and open of the program will usually fix it for me.
VERY ANNOYING, but I was fairly sure it was not a PS issue.
Susan
