Background menu picture disappears in 30sec

      Hi again

. Here is another problem I constantly run into and I cannot fix.

When I use for my projects any of the ready menus when I play the DVD the menus play ok but after 30sec. the background picture of the menu

disappears -> background turns pitch black and only the menu buttons remain visible.

What is the reason for that?

In the Menu->Motion submenu I set 'Loop' to 'forever' but leave the 'loop point' value as it is i.e. '0'.

I don't run into the same problem when I make the menus myself from scratch using PSD files. This tells me that the problem is rootet in the ready-to-use menus and some of their settings.

      Thank you

          Igor,

First thought: do you have Audio in the Menu? Is it exactly the same Duration as the Video?

          Good luck,

            Hi Bill,

Yes, I have audio (which is basically a 4min song). I have no idea how long the video of the menu is as it is the stock one (one of the standard ones offered in the Encore menu library).

Could you please help me with advice on one other important matter: I've build a project in Encore for a standard definition (4:3 that is 720x480)) video output through Adobe Media Encoder in .M2V format. Everytime I build a menu for it in Encore and output it in Encore the finished DVD becomes stretched to 16:9. I really don;t have a clue why this happens. I guess some of my settings are not correct.

            Regards,

            Igor

              Igor,

What you are most likely seeing is the Motion Asset (Video in this case) ending before the other (Audio in this case) has done so.

              Now, there are two choices:

1.) Take you Video into PrPro and extend it (duplicating the Instance of it) until it matches your Audio

2.) Take your Audio into PrPro, or Audition, Soundbooth, or other audio-editor, and shorten it to match your Video.

Whichever way you go, make sure that the Audio does not exceed the Duration of the Video. I'd actually stop it ever so slightly shorter, than the Video.

              Good luck,

PS - one consideration is that most users will likely not sit through a 4 min. Audio Track, before pushing a Button, unless it's one heck of a song.

                Thanks Bill!

I followed your advice and shortened the audio and everything works just fine.

I'll try next the other method - exporting the motion asset to PrPro. Not sure how to do that hough.

The final problem I'm facing - and most serious one - is that I try to output trough Encore a standard definition (4:3 aspect ratio) project comprised of video.m2v and audio.wav files but for some reason Encore creates a disc where the video is streched to 16:9. Any ideas how to set the right parameters in Encore in order to output 4:3 video?

Is your M2v 4:3, or 16:9? Remember, En is not an NLE (Non Linear Editor), and it must be fed the exact Assets, that are required.

Now, for the Audio. I create my Motion Menu Audio Assets in PrPro, but part of that is because I do DD 5.1 SS, which I encode through the SurCode plug-in, and then Import that AC3 into En. However, were I doing PCM/WAV, I'd possibly use it, especially as I could then match it up to my Video Motion Asset. Just edit the Audio stream, as is required, adding Transitions, riding Gain/Levels, etc., and then Export as a PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit and Import that as an Asset.

One could do the same from Soundbooth, or Audition, but I keep it in PrPro, so I can match to that Video.

                  Good luck,
