    Button Highlights Being Cut Off

    Webshark2000 Community Member

I'm having an issue where I can create some button highlights in Photoshop for a menu, but when I preview the menu in Encore, the highlights are missing part of themselves.  For example, I made a highlight that had four L shaped segment around the corners of a video menu button.  They look fine on most of the buttons, but on one button half of the L shape is cut off, so on one side they just look like dashes instead of Ls.

I thought maybe another button was bumping into them or something, but I tried moving everything away, even deleting other buttons and I still get the same problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks.

This has happened to others. In nearly every case, it was due to the size of the Menu and also the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) of the Menu not matching the Project.

Can you give us the full details of the problem Menu, including the pixel x pixel size, and its PAR?

          Good luck,

Yep, you were right.  I don't know how, but somehow my menus went from 720x480 resolution to 750x560.  Weird.  Not sure of the Pixel Aspect Ratio. Where can I find that at, or would I just divide 750 by 560 (which would be 1.34)?

Great news! Many here fought similar for another poster, and he finally changed the pixel x pixel size and also the PAR (at Stanley Jones' insistence, IIRC), and that worked. I learned something from that old thread.

              Good luck and happy authoring,

PS - if you created the Menu from an Exported still Frame from a later version of PrPro, there can be some size shifts there. I do that a lot, and even create Button Transitions from those. Luckily, PrPro 2.0 does it correctly (at least for me), but I think that CS4.2 made some changes, and they are not quickly noticeable, unless one does Image Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio, in PS. Also, I almost always start with the PS New Image Preset for my Project size, say NTSC 720 x 480 PAR 0.9 w/ Guides. Note: as of CS4, the PAR's for 4:3 and 16:9 have been corrected slightly, but that is not the difference that some see with Exported still Frames - it's something else.
