    CS4: Distributed rendering?

    Christopher Duncan Community Member

      Hey, guys.

      Back in the old days I was using Sony Vegas. One of the options they offered was the ability to set up an additional rendering server on a second workstation so that your render jobs could be distributed across a couple of computers. Does Premiere / Media Encoder support any sort of distributed scenario like that?

          Alas, PrPro does not yet offer the use of a render farm. Do not know the disposition of its addition, and our Adobe folk probably would not be allowed to say.

          Sorry,

            Hey, it is what it is. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

            Shucks, if I thought I could get a Ferrari by asking, I'd try that, too!

              You are not alone in asking for this capability. I think that Harm Millaard issues a plea about once per month.

              I would suggest filing a Feature Request, as Adobe takes those very seriously, and will prioritize implementation, based on the number of separate requests for such. Now, whether it will be a major programming issue, or maybe even totally impossible to implement, will remain to be seen.

              Good luck,

              PS - now I might get my hand slapped, when one of our Adobe contributors drops by, and says, "do not tell 'em to file those for this, as we know full well, and are working overtime to add it." I'll just get banished to the Lounge for a week, so do not worry about me...

                In a previous lifetime I spent a couple of decades as a professional software developer, so I know better than to poke the guys in the cubicles with a stick. Besides, being the new kid on the block, I couldn't very well have your banisment on my conscience.

                  Yeah, every time they see me in the hall with my stick, they usually reach under the desk and pull out all sorts of weapons - all bigger and badder than my stick!

                  PS - I also find that a few do not have a developed sense of humor...

                    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

                    Geeks in general have little in the way of social skills. I was an anomoly as I'd spent a decade teaching sales prior to becoming a programmer. It was the corporate equivalent of bringing a tank to a knife fight. I didn't get the cool gigs and the good money because I was a better geek. I was just better at promoting my agenda and didn't mind dealing with people.

                    I've written a couple of books thus far trying to help my cubicle bound brothers and sisters carve out a better life in the looney bin that passes for the corporate world, but a lot of them just prefer to sit in a cubicle. Without a sense of humor.

                      Good luck, and thanks for the chuckles!
