Bill Hunt Jul 5, 2010 11:28 AM (in response to rotundus)raid 0
I assume that the RAID is for your media files. What are the specs. of your other HDD's - the more info, the better, plus tell us how each is allocated, please?
Also, check your Project file (PRPROJ) size. Has it "bloated" to a much larger size? If so, see this THREAD
Good luck,
Hunt

3. Re: RAM getting eatin up - memory leak?
rotundus Jul 6, 2010 12:31 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)soo, i read the "bloated" section... i dont seem to have that problem. I kept a close eye on my project file and it stays the same file size. However the ram again slowly creeeps up to 7.89gb in usage.
What u mean by allocated?

4. Re: RAM getting eatin up - memory leak?
Bill Hunt Jul 6, 2010 8:20 AM (in response to rotundus)Thanks for reading that thread. I just wanted to rule that out as a possibility, as it has bitten others, and the symptoms might be similar. Scratch the Project bloating.
Thanks for checking and reporting, and good luck,
Hunt

5. Re: RAM getting eatin up - memory leak?
Stephen Eckelberry Jul 6, 2010 6:40 PM (in response to rotundus)CS5 is Ram hunger in my experience. If you watch the Adobe videos about CS5 it talks about RAM allocation and it talks about "leveraging RAM" that translates to me into sucking up all the RAM it can get.:

The upside is that you can play unrendered sequences. I uped my ram from 8 gig to 16.

jeremy d. Jul 6, 2010 7:02 PM (in response to Stephen Eckelberry)Have you all tried adjusting the RAM allocation in the preferences?

7. Re: RAM getting eatin up - memory leak?
Stephen Eckelberry Jul 11, 2010 6:50 AM (in response to jeremy d.)Tried raising it, but PrPro insists on saving 3 gig for other programs, leaving me with 9 out of a total of 12. ( my math was off earlier.) This may be a Mac thing.

8. Re: RAM getting eatin up - memory leak?
jabloomf1230 Jul 11, 2010 5:43 PM (in response to Stephen Eckelberry)Look here.
Although it makes sense to reserve a fixed percentage of RAM for the OS and non-CS5 software, on systems with 4GB, it makes less sense to reserve a fixed percentage on systems with large amounts of physical RAM. But unless Adobe provides an update that changes this behavior, it is by design.

9. Re: RAM getting eatin up - memory leak?
Gillissie Jul 11, 2010 11:14 PM (in response to rotundus)This may be related, maybe not, but when I exit Premiere CS5 (Windows Vista), the Premiere process continues to run. It continues to use about 25% CPU and a bunch of memory. If I relaunch Premiere and exit again, another process is stuck and uses up another 25% CPU and more memory, etc. I have to manually end the processes using the task manager.

Jeff Bellune Jul 12, 2010 7:05 AM (in response to Gillissie)Matrox codecs installed?

11. Re: RAM getting eatin up - memory leak?
Gillissie Jul 12, 2010 5:03 PM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Not that I'm aware of. I'm not using any Matrox products.
By the way, I noticed that sometimes the process exits properly, but usually it gets stuck. It always exits properly if I click the Exit button on the launch screen instead of opening or creating a project.
