Will Photoshop Elements 7 work with Windows 7?

    yanksdevils28 Community Member

I am considering upgrading my laptop's operating system from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and just wanted to make sure that my photoshop (ver7) which i payed for when i bought the laptop, would still work even with the upgraded operating system.

      Thanks.

My PSE 5 works fine on my Win 7 64bit, if that info is of any use.

I think adobe's position is "using Win 7?  get PSE 8"

I also can't speak directly.  However, I run Win7 x64 on my machine now and Elements 6 has given me no trouble.  Since it has, I've just not seen anything in PSE7 or 8 to justify an upgrade yet.

Hopefully 9 will bring some much needed updates, especially to the organizer.  That would be worth paying for.

You should be alright, however you would have to save you actual catalog files, and also transfer the photos to another machine while you make the upgrade, then reconstruct the file structure exactly as it was in Vista. This supposes you will be doing a clean install of the new OS, which would include a reformat of the HDD. Even if you are planning an upgrade installation, you would be best advised to back everything up.

What I'm saying here is, if you want to install PSE-7 in Windows 7, yes, it will work, even in 64bit Win 7. But, if you expect to be able to transfer the collection intact to the new installation, you will have to do some prep work to make this happen.

Transfering catalogs to a new machine, operating system, or a different version of PSE is a common discussion here, and some research of these types of threads would likely be of great benefit to you before you make the move.

There is another consideration with respect to the laptop itself. You need to check if the proper drivers will be available from the manufacturer's website for Windows 7. If your machine never shipped with Win 7, you could have problems. Many Vista drivers will poissibly do the job under the new OS, but it isn't anything I would count on as a certainty.
