1. Re: Windows cannot find ...wmplayer.ext error with CS5 and Win7x64
Curt Y May 9, 2010 7:37 PM (in response to skeeze)Bridge uses QuickTime to play its video, so make sure that is loaded with current version.

skeeze May 10, 2010 5:57 PM (in response to Curt Y)Interesting, I will update my quicktime, but wmplayer.exe clearly is not Quicktime...strange.

3. Re: Windows cannot find ...wmplayer.ext error with CS5 and Win7x64
skeeze May 21, 2010 8:35 PM (in response to skeeze)I did find the problem, but it is not solved and Adobe will need to resolve. If you update your QuickTime to 7.6.7 you will get this error. I am on 7.6.5 and it works properly until I upgrade. I have tested repeatedly with the same results.

4. Re: Windows cannot find ...wmplayer.ext error with CS5 and Win7x64
mhdiver May 28, 2010 3:43 PM (in response to skeeze)I'm experiencing the same problem. I updated my Quicktime Pro from 7.2.2 to 7.
6.6 - I couldn't find version 7.6.5 on Apple's website. I still can't preview my m2ts files in Bridge. They will play with Windows Media Player just fine, as you described. I get the exact same error message as well. Is anyone working on a fix, do you know?
By the way, I'm running Master Collection CS5 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS. Loads of RAM, fast processor, loads of free space.

5. Re: Windows cannot find ...wmplayer.ext error with CS5 and Win7x64
skeeze May 30, 2010 9:43 AM (in response to skeeze)Well, it get's even weirder yet. I went back to a prior image that had the older quicktime version and all my video's play correctly except for ones that are in one particular directory. Nothing special about the directory, checked permissions, file types are the same, etc., so there is no rhyme or reason why it seems to occur. They all play fine through Windows Explorer.

6. Re: Windows cannot find ...wmplayer.ext error with CS5 and Win7x64
Rick Corben Jul 19, 2010 8:41 PM (in response to skeeze)Your system and mine are similar. If the problems are the same (as I suspect), then it occurs for .m2ts files and not .mts files. Since the two extensions are essentially equivalent as far as Premiere Pro is concerned, you might be able to use the ugly workaround of renaming all your .m2ts files to .mts.
Obviously, the right solution is for Adobe to fix the bug in Bridge CS5. This appears to be a trivial technical problem, and it is hard to understand why Adobe has been so slow in responding.

7. Re: Windows cannot find ...wmplayer.ext error with CS5 and Win7x64
mhdiver Jul 20, 2010 7:42 AM (in response to Rick Corben)I'll try renaming a file to .mts and see how it responds. Thanks.
The interesting thing here is that some Adobe products support AVCHD files while others don't. I have Premiere Elements 8.0 on my laptop. Premiere Elements includes a file manager called Organizer which functions like Bridge; that is to say, it is used to preview, rank and overall, manage media assets. My .m2ts files both preview and play perfectly in Adobe's Organizer. I have spent weeks talking to Adobe's technical support staff and have been passed to more than 20 different people. None of the support staff seem to understand this issue. They surely don't have a look at these forums, unfortunately. They closed my case without a solution.
I've considered installing Premiere Elements on my desktop PC solely to have a functioning file asset manager, but I don't know if it would result in conflicts or other problems.
Thanks for your response. It's worth a try for sure.

Another Photographer Jan 15, 2011 10:22 PM (in response to skeeze)I have the same problem. I am on version 7.6.8 of Quicktime. Renaming a file extension from m2ts to mts solves the problem in that now Bridge will tell Windows Media Player to open the file, but there is still no preview in Bridge.

9. Re: Windows cannot find ...wmplayer.ext error with CS5 and Win7x64
mhdiver Jan 16, 2011 7:38 AM (in response to Another Photographer)What's really interesting is that tthe Organizer in Adobe Premiere Elements
(which functions like Bridge - allows you to manage your assets and preview
photos and videos), actually previews the m2ts files! When I work in the field,
I use Elements on a laptop with no problem, but when I transfer these files to
my desktop PC with Adobe Master Collection CS5, they won't preview in Bridge. I
discussed this with several of Adobe's tech staff and they couldn't address why
Elements could play them and not Bridge. I really hope they are taking this
seriously and working on a fix, as it is a huge workflow problem. It's
important to consider, however, that Adobe is constantly trying to keep up with
the constantly changing myriad of cameras with their proprietary formats, and
developing codecs for it's suite of applications. Daunting, surely. Good luck.

rickg1949 Jan 22, 2011 6:56 AM (in response to skeeze)I am moving to an AVCHD workflow and this conversation is making me nervous. After a lot of time spent with tech support concerning HDV mpeg playback in Bridge, it looks like I'm going to suffer a similar frustration with AVCHD also!? Let's hope not. As a professional tool, Bridge needs to provide the thumbnail/preview capabilities that it always did for AVI's, JPEG's, PSD's and all the other flavors of media that we've come to use in rooms of CS5 Master Suite.
Adobe, please give us the upgrade in Bridge that we all need so that we can use it as the foundation tool for all the other great programs you include in Master Suite!!!

11. try vlc instead of windows media player
sweetidad32 Jul 25, 2011 2:36 PM (in response to skeeze)I also am bummed by the lack of full support in Adobe Bridge for AVCHD (.mts and .m2ts) files. Here a couple of suggestions that I have come up with.
1. I defined a Smart Collection for my AVCHD files (filenames containing mts, etc.). This makes it easy to preview them all.
2. I set up vlc as the application to manage m2ts files rather than wmplayer (in Windows 7). Then when you "open" an m2ts file, it previews with vlc (with no error message), rather than getting the notorious wmplayer error message. In case you haven't used it, vlc is a rather handy free, open source media player that seems to play about anything that you can throw at it.

mhdiver Jul 26, 2011 7:18 AM (in response to sweetidad32)When you say 'preview them all', do you mean view the thumbnails or actually preview the video clips from within Bridge?
Thanks!
