1. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
BobLevine Jul 21, 2010 6:57 AM (in response to boymomx4)You heard wrong. There are no CS5 apps that cannot open files created in earlier versions.
That said, going the other way will be a problem for some apps such as InDesign.
You can get the CS2 Design Standard to CS5 Design Premium upgrade at Amazon for $763 with free shipping: http://amzn.to/bVMlqi
That will save you a few buck over the Adobe list price.

2. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
boymomx4 Jul 21, 2010 7:14 AM (in response to BobLevine)So if I understand you correctly, Bob, any of my clients with CS2, CS3 or CS4 would have a hard time opening/editing/dealing with any new documents I create in CS5. Is that correct?

3. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
BobLevine Jul 21, 2010 7:21 AM (in response to boymomx4)100% correct for InDesign, less so for other apps.
In this business it pays to buy every upgrade because you never know when you'll need each version. Assuming an 18 month upgrade cycle and upgrading Design Premium with each release, the cost would be less than that of a cup of coffee every day. It's not all that hard to budget for $599 every 18 months.

4. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
boymomx4 Jul 21, 2010 7:30 AM (in response to BobLevine)Perhaps so, but from what I've read here at the Forums about all the conflicts involved with running each version, not so sure having every single release/upgrade on one's hard drive is the answer either. Thanks for your feedback, btw. Appreciated!

5. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
BobLevine Jul 21, 2010 7:32 AM (in response to boymomx4)I have CS3, CS4, CS5 running on Mac and Windows. There are no conflicts. You've been listening to the wrong people.

6. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
boymomx4 Jul 21, 2010 10:18 AM (in response to BobLevine)I see; thank you. If I may beleaguer this issue a few minutes longer, I'm wondering how clients will be able to update/maintain a new CS5 InDesign-generated document (a CS5 InDesign template, for example) on a fairly regular basis with ease. What are their options, short of updating their Adobe CS and/or InDesign software, too? Your thoughts are apprecaited.

7. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
BobLevine Jul 21, 2010 10:25 AM (in response to boymomx4)There are no options. If they need CS2 CS3 CS4 that's the version you should be creating them in.
Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

8. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
boymomx4 Jul 21, 2010 11:43 AM (in response to BobLevine)Okay! Last question (promise): Will I still be able to open and edit older Quark documents in CS5 InDesign like I currently can in CS2 InDesign?

9. Re: CS2 Standard > Upgrade to CS5 Design Premium question
BobLevine Jul 21, 2010 11:46 AM (in response to boymomx4)Yes. CS5 will still open Quark 4.x and 3.x files. For anything newer you'll need Q2ID
