I have lots of images in a project which are out of date and not used any more. Is there any easy way of seeing which images are used in the project and which arent, so that i can delete the old ones? Or do i just have to go through them all and find the old ones : (

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Try Tools | Reports | Unused Files.

Beware of what other files you delete. Images reported as unused are unused, that is not true of all other file types.
