Bill Hunt Jul 24, 2010 3:03 PM (in response to on5lb)Jean,
Do not know about the Canon software, but would assume that it's available from the Canon site - just a guess though.
As for the Camera RAW images, one needs to update the ACR module, as new cameras are frequently added. Now, not sure that you will find what you need for CS3, as it's older. I ran into the latest versions of ACR not working with CS2, so for one new Canon, I have to use the Canon software for the RAW images. When I go to CS5, it will not be an issue. Just not sure about the version compatibilities with the newest ACR. HERE's the list of available ACR modules for Mac. Check out what is covered in each, and the compatibility with CS3.
Good luck,
Hunt

John Joslin Jul 24, 2010 3:07 PM (in response to on5lb)The newer camera needs a newer version of Adobe Camera Raw.
The 5D needs ACR 3.3, the 5D MkII needs ACR 5.2 which will not run on CS3!

Noel Carboni Jul 24, 2010 3:13 PM (in response to on5lb)Adobe Camera Raw is maintained for a certain amount of time after release of a new version, to add updates.
After a certain time, Adobe stops adding new camera support to older versions of the Camera Raw plug-in. They do this to incentivize you to buy new Adobe software.
Your Camera Raw is version 4 (which goes with CS3). The latest is, I believe, 4.6, which can be found here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4037 (Mac)
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4038 (Windows)
I have heard a rumor of Camera Raw 4.7, but I don't know anything more about it. Frankly, given that 4.6 was released in 2008, I doubt there will be a 4.7.
It does not appear that Camera Raw 4 supports your 5D Mark II.
One possibility: There is a program called a DNG Converter. I believe you could convert your 5D Mark II files to .dng format with the latest software, then open them with the Camera Raw version that you have.

John Joslin Jul 24, 2010 3:15 PM (in response to John Joslin)You can download the free DNG converter to make your later CR2 files viewable/editable.

on5lb Jul 24, 2010 3:40 PM (in response to on5lb)Thanks, all of you for comments.
Stupid i did not install DPP original on my MBP, because looking at the Canon web sites, they only propose UPDATES, but i need the original basic to start.
I actually did find DPP380.EXE for Windows 7, but system refuse to install it ! Not compatible with Windows 7 32bit...?
OK, I think the best way will be to ask a Canon reseller for a original CD, because i need to check some images before going back to Belgium.

Jean

dec9 Jul 24, 2010 4:46 PM (in response to on5lb)Maybe you need to right click on the DPP380.exe and choose run as Admin. See how that works out.

on5lb Jul 25, 2010 2:04 AM (in response to dec9)Hi dec9,
Thanks for your reaction, but..I already did it, and the answer is:
DPP380FR.EXE IS NOT A VALID APPLICATION FOR WIN32BIT...!
I also tried: " Solve incompatible problem...No way !
I wonder if there is a link where to find the basic original DPP ?

on5lb Jul 25, 2010 2:25 AM (in response to on5lb)Hi all of You.
Trying several options, i succeeded viewing my RAW images from 5D Mark II using the:
"Windows Images Viewer" application included with the OS Windows 7 Pro.
I can only view them, but that's exactly what i wanted, to be sure i made the right and correct shots !
Have i nice day,
Jean

Noel Carboni Jul 25, 2010 8:28 AM (in response to on5lb)Aha! Good discovery. You are no doubt viewing the JPEG image that's embedded in the raw file, which is quite acceptable for previewing.
I was about to suggest the freeware program Irfan View for doing just that.
