1. Re: Resize an entire document, objects, text and all.
Stix Hart Jul 19, 2010 2:22 PM (in response to E Diane King)While there are plugins available (Proscale ID from Gluon is one, and is apparently very good) you should have a look at the free MultiPageImporter script, which could do what you're wanting completely automagically. Yes you would have to have more files, but with some descriptive naming it should be possible to keep it pretty simple.
The other advantage is that a quick open and update links is all you need to resize it again and you've still got it in 2 sizes, whereas you'd probably find even with a plugin some more manual editing is required if you want to update one size.

P Spier Jul 19, 2010 2:18 PM (in response to E Diane King)Placing the first files pages into a second file is absolutley the best way to go. You really only have one file to maintain that way -- the other only contains links to the first and all editing is done only inthe original version. No chance for you get the two out of synch.

E Diane King Jul 19, 2010 6:58 PM (in response to E Diane King)Thanks for the replies. I might look into that Gloun plugin. That looks really interesting.
I don't necessarily mind placing the one file into the other, but my main concern is someone coming behind me later and trying to figure out the file. I'll know what's going on, but I'm the most proficient ID person in my group of designers, and if someone handles the file after me, they WILL be confused.

It's always a good idea to include documentation with templates and projects, as a reminder to yourself, as well as for anyone else who may need to work on the files.
You can leave documentation on an unhidden non-printing layer, or in text frame on the first-page/spread's pasteboard, in the bleed and/or slug area, or as visible conditional text on a master page or pasteboard pasteboard, etc. Be sure to include a note on how to avoid having the documentation appear in print, PDF, or other output.

P Spier Jul 20, 2010 3:51 AM (in response to E Diane King)Better they should be confused until they read your documentation than they should have multiple versions of the same material.

6. Re: Resize an entire document, objects, text and all.
E Diane King Jul 20, 2010 6:38 AM (in response to Stix Hart)I've decided to get the ProScale tool. I like the ability to scale everything down but still be able to edit some of the text that might be too small after the scale.
Thanks so much for all the suggestions.

7. Re: Resize an entire document, objects, text and all.
E Diane King Jul 30, 2010 5:03 AM (in response to E Diane King)I just wanted to come back to this thread to report that the ProScale worked quite nicely. It messed up a few pictures throughout the book, but most everything scaled exactly the way I wanted. I ended up making quite a few edits on the book, so I'm very glad that I used the plugin instead of placing scaled pages inside another document.

8. Re: Resize an entire document, objects, text and all.
Stix Hart Jul 30, 2010 5:18 AM (in response to E Diane King)Glad it worked, you made me curious to have another look at it and I find it's available only for Macs, so I've recommended a product I can't use myself!
