    Why doesn't it auto load?

I recently downloaded a lens profile, from the Adobe site via CS5, for the Canon 18-200 (the one done for Canon 40D RAW).  When I check the 'use profile', nothing happens.  However, if I specify 'Canon' in the first dropdown, the 18-200 profile pops up.  I am using a 7D.

I have also downloaded (from his site) Ian's 100-400 and 70-200 2.8 profiles.  These pop up as soon as the box is checked.

Why does the 18-200 profile require add'l manual intervention?

I am guessing the profile doesn't contain enough metadata in order for CR/LR to be sure of the lens identity. You can create your custom default by shooting "Save New Lens Profile Defaults" from the Setup menu. Then you won't have to manually pick the profile anymore.
