    Kuler not launching

    tonyharmer CommunityMVP

After originally posting the following in Photoshop > Macintosh:

The Kuler, "Access CS Live" and "CS News and Resources" panels just sit there and load nothing.

I've reinstalled the CS5 Master Collection twice, removed the CS4 Master Collection (just in case they were conflicting - even though they should be able to co-exist I thought it worth a try. I also removed and reinstalled the Flash Player (again, just in case...) but to no avail.

      I'd appreciate any pointers.

I received the following reply from David Harman at Adobe:

      Sorry you're having trouble.

Here are a couple of the most likely culprits to check: there are settings in multiple CS5 (and CS4) apps that can block extensions from accessing the internet.

In Photoshop CS5, go to Preferences > Plug-ins, and make sure that all three options in the Extensions Panels group are checked.  Restart Photoshop and see if that helped.  BTW, the same setting in CS4 (well, two of the three are there) can block access in CS5 apps, so if you still have Photoshop CS4, check that, too.

There are also a number of CS4 apps that have a different setting that can block access.  I know you said you removed them, but just in case you missed one of the CS4 apps, check Window > Extensions > Connections, and in the Connections panel, click the dropdown menu, select "Offline Options" and be sure that "Keep me Offline" is not checked.  This setting is available in Dreamweaver CS4, Flash Pro CS4, Illustrator CS4 and InDesign CS4, so you will need to check all of them (if you have any installed).

I'm assuming that you've already checked the very obvious stuff (i.e. you actually do have net access from that machine, there's nothing that you've done to explicitly try to block net access or disable CS Live, etc...).

Hope that helps.  If it doesn't, please repost the question over in the CS Review forum, and we can follow up there.

I had already checked all of the above, and - even though it isn't necessary (but just to eliminate it) - removed CS4 apps (in which Kuler was working perfectly, anyway). I am curious that the CS Review panel is working perfectly - and that retrieves the dummy review in which I am participating just fine (shot follows).

The panels do not even appear in illustrator at all. Just to deepen the mystery, Browser Lab works just fine in Dreamweaver, and the Kuler AIR app works fine - I'm stumped. I suppose I ought to mention also that I was involved in the prerelease program but - before I'm asked - have run the cleaner.
