copying and pasting table data

Hi all,

I'm in the midst of converting some old WinHelp files to HTMLHelp format. All the files have topics with the same three-column tables.

Part of the conversion is making the tables look "prettier," so we've got a new table formatting scheme all set up in a template .htt file.

Problem is, I can copy the new table and its formatting into my RoboHelp WYSIWYG editor...but to transfer the DATA from the old tables, I have to cut and paste each cell's data individually; I can't just select the old table (and its data) "en masse" and paste the data into the new snazzy table. Since the tables have three columns and up to 30 rows, it can get pretty tedious cutting and pasting each cell's data into its corresponding cell in the new table.

Is there any way to make this process quicker? Ideally, I'd love to just reduce the process to steps:

1) Copy a blank version of the new, prettier table into RoboHelp WYSIWYG.
2) Cut the data out of the old table.
3) Paste the data into the new table.

I hope I'm making my question clear....

Thanks in advance!
Dave

Colum, I think his angst is caused by not being able to copy/paste the content in multiple cells, as you can in Word.

Unfortunately, Dave, that's not possible...

Hi Dave and welcome to the forums. I underwent a similar exercise awhile back and can commiserate with you. However the best way I found was to create a custom table in RH's gallery. You can then create a table using the gallery and do exactly what you want. How to do this is described in Rick Stone's excellent Tips and Tricks file which you can download from here. Just look under the index entry of "tables".

Yes, Leon, that's more along the lines of what I was trying to do. That's too bad! 😞 Maybe the next version? *sigh*....
Thanks for confirming that, anyway!

Cheers,
Dave
