pashkito Jul 4, 2009 1:46 AM (in response to ferdinandNGC)Hello
From Previous experience just make sure that, when building a Blu-Ray project, the BDMV folder is not on an external Fat 32 Disk that restricts to a maximum of 3.99 GB per folder
maybe that would help

ferdinandNGC Jul 4, 2009 5:43 AM (in response to pashkito)That is good to here not to use an external to build a Blu-ray project. Since my post I have experimented with this bitcalculator found here:
http://http://dvd-hq.info/bitrate_calculator.php#Calculator
I have tried 2 projects one a 4 hours and one a 2 hour project following these guidelines with 2 Pass VBR. The projects were simple using Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore Chapter marks and exporting into Encore CS3 to build without a menu.
The quality degenerated a bit between 2 and 4 hour projects but I believe few would notice the difference. I wish there was a Calculator like this as a small program to download. Adobe should write one.

pashkito Jul 6, 2009 3:11 PM (in response to ferdinandNGC)Hi again,
I have noticed that you did overlook an important aspect of my recommendation:) I Never meant You cannot build to an external
hard drive . You can of course build yr project on an external hard drive but :
The hardrive Must be an "NTFS" and not a FAT 32 whereby you are restricted to a Maximum of 3.9 GB per each folder .
In other words, if your Main Timeline or any other Timeline or m2ts file is Bigger that 3.9 GB,( which is the maximum of each folder capacity on a FAT 32 drive ), then you might get that error.
Cheers.

ferdinandNGC Aug 14, 2010 4:19 PM (in response to ferdinandNGC)Well it has been one year and I am getting the same error message for the same reason
when trying to burn a Blu-ray disk. Any suggestions?

Jeff Bellune Aug 14, 2010 4:40 PM (in response to ferdinandNGC)During the past year, did you ensure that all of your hard drives, internal and external, are formatted as NTFS and not FAT32?

ferdinandNGC Aug 14, 2010 5:44 PM (in response to ferdinandNGC)Jeff no I only have NTFS drives. I am starting to think that my problem has something to do with
the size of the file I am trying to burn to bluray. If I keep the CBR or VBR to lower quality I don't seem to
get the dreaded Device Code Error but I also leave empty space on a blank Bluray disk.

castlegrande Nov 9, 2010 5:03 PM (in response to ferdinandNGC)In another location on the web someone suggested removing the AuthorScriptHDMVSessions folder from your Encore Project folder.
I did and the Blu Ray burned just fine...however, in a 23 minute program there were two audio "hiccups" fairly close together. I rechecked the playback in Encore of the movie I was burning and didn't notice the problem. The particular disk I burned to has been through the ringer with so many failed attempts I'm wondering if it didn't get damaged somehow. I'll get a new platter and try it again. The quality was really beautiful.
Speaking of burning, I'm a bit miffed that we have to go to such extremes to get the software to work after paying a king's ransom. Then to be told by support I've run out of free inquiries, it will cost $50 to ask, and there's NO GUARANTEE OF RESOLUTION!
(P.S) When I used the new disk, there were no glitches.

ram8kumar Nov 10, 2010 3:41 AM (in response to castlegrande)The device error code 3 generally comes when the Blu ray disc used is faulty.
Try with the new disc and the error should not come there.

castlegrande Nov 10, 2010 9:08 AM (in response to ram8kumar)The disk that I had in the burner originally did burn after I removed the AuthorScriptHDMVSessions folder from the Encore project folder...apparently the code 3 wasn't being brought up in reponse to a flawed disk.

10. Re: Blu-ray Error: "device error", Code: "3", Note: "AS_StorageError= -97140
Andrey V Nov 13, 2011 10:50 PM (in response to castlegrande)I realize that this this subject is a year old, but the error has not been solved. I had the same error just today, and wasted 4 disks. There is no way all of them would be faulty. But I think this error is due to the size of the video being burned to the disk. I have noticed that Encore gives the size of the space left on the disk but, it may not be accurate.
Here is what I notices that all the video was written on to the disk but as soon as writing lead out started, the error pups up. And I deleted the mentioned folder couple times, but it did not solve the problem.
So I would reduce the video size by changing a bit rate and see what happens.

11. Re: Blu-ray Error: "device error", Code: "3", Note: "AS_StorageError= -97140
ferdinandNGC Nov 14, 2011 5:44 AM (in response to Andrey V)Bluray disks are called 25GB but they only hold 21 or 22GB. Reducing the quality makes little or no difference to how the video is displayed on a TV.

studiopeters Oct 3, 2012 11:23 AM (in response to ferdinandNGC)This happend to me, now with Adobe Encore CS6 and a brand new LG BD14 Blu-Ray burner. I'm sure this is a bug in Adobe Encore, unfixed after these many years. The only sure workaround is to have Adobe Encore make an ISO image, and then use third party sofware to burn the ISO to the disc.
I just used the software that was bundled with the drive to burn the ISO image. Worked first time after wasting many discs.
