Hello,

My goal was to copy purchased ebooks from computer1 to computer2.

This did not work.

So I consulted your help function.

It turned out computer1 had not been authorized yet,

So I did the authorization and got the following message:

Adobe digital now visible on other computers.png

HOWEVER, I cannot read the books on computer2 and also not anymore on computer1!

Please let me know how to restore the old settings on computer1!

I tried to do this on computer1 with ctr+shift+d but still I keep getting the same error message:

Document is licensed for a different user account!

Please advise!!

Otherwise all the ebooks I purchased cannot be read anymore?!?!

Thanks!

Support for Digital Editions is offered through the web portal.  Go to http://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions and click on 'Submit a web case'

Bump. Was this issue ever resolved? a fix posted here would be very useful. I have exactly the same issue and have had to open a web ticket to resolve it.

Not sure I'm going to have the same issue. I'm on the verge of replacing a 6-year-old laptop, and don't want to lose my Adobe Digital Editions content. It was all free, but also all DRM protected, and not re-downloadable from the U of Chicago Press, because all of my DRM titles are U of Chicago Press 'free e-book of the month' titles. No Sony Reader is involved.

Is there a procedure written up anywhere on how to handle this? I'll be migrating to a Windows 7 machine.

Thank you so much in advance!

Hi there Cundrie,

After a week of trying, I still getting responses from Adobe that have not

resolved the issue. If your Digital Editions is not authorised, my only

advice would be DO NOT authorise it! If you do, then you de-authorise it

again, it seems that your PC will simply create a new anonymous ID and your

books will be toast.

My only advice would be to follow (very carefully) the instructions listed

here:

http://vivaebooks.blogspot.com/2009/10/iphone-reading-adobeepub-ebooks.html

They may help as long as you still have the ability to read the books on

your old PC. If I get any significant help from Adobe I'll pass it on but it

basically looks like if you don't authorise the PC to start with, everything

is tied with double knots to that PC. Crazy.

Best of luck,

Jo

Cr@p. I authorized my laptop when I installed the software months back.

I'll give the instructions you've linked to a read. Thank you so much for the reply!

As I've always said: DRM is terrible at preventing piracy, and brilliant at flagging rightful owners as thieves. At least Amazon's DRM is fairly invisible.

If you authorised the software to an Adobe ID before you downloaded the

ebook you should be fine. Simply download and authorise Digital Editions on

your new PC and copy/paste the Whole Digital Editions folder across from

your My Documents folder. As long as you use the same Adobe ID as on your

old PC you should be fine.

If you authorised it Anonymously, that's when your likely to have issues...

Got it. As I recall, when I was installing, a message came up offering me the opportunity to register, and I couldn't decide whether registering would be worse than not registering, or vice-versa. I basically tossed a mental coin. It's not like Adobe ever warns a person that one could lose access to all of one's books.

I hope Adobe comes through for you. Thanks for helping *me*.

No Probs Cundrie,

Looks like you're sorted if you authorised it. Lucky you, keep that coin for

future decisions!

For anyone else reading this post and having the same problems, here is

Adobe's final response:

*"Your eBook license has to be reset for you to be able to gain access to

eBooks on your old machine. This process is carried out by the eBook vendor.

Also, only the eBook vendor can tell which eBook is licensed to which ID.

So, please get in touch with them and your issue would get resolved."*

Looks like the only recourse is a complaint / begging letter to your ebook

vendor.

Good Luck guys...
