2. Re: Random Horizontal Positioning & Opacity
Todd_Kopriva Aug 24, 2010 8:31 AM (in response to thanser)You're describing a perfect use for the wiggle expression method, which creates smoothly varying randomness in a property. See this page for an explanation and an example expression that wiggles only horizontal (y-axis) position.
You can copy and paste expressions, or you can save them as animation presets. Either way, you could have one expression using the wiggle method that you could easily apply to all layers.

thanser Aug 24, 2010 8:55 AM (in response to thanser)Thank you, both. I could have spent hours dinkin' around in AE, trying to find the best method, or I could post a carefully-crafted message while waking up to coffee. The trick is describing the animation exactly as you expect it to to appear.
Let me give these techniques a try, and thank you again.

stovk64 Mar 19, 2012 5:33 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)That looks like something I am trying to do. However, how can I have it affect the x axis only?

dh91 Mar 19, 2012 8:29 PM (in response to stovk64)To only affect the X axis, right click on Position under Transform and select "Separate Dimensions". You can then apply the wiggle command to your desired axis!
