As for who to let to manage the colors during printing, there are so many conflicting opinions that i simply consider it up to personal preference, just try out all the options (only Photoshop, only the printer and both the printer and Photoshop manages colors) and see which version you prefer

To elaborate, monitor calibration has no effect on the file itself. It just ensures that it displays correctly, to a common standard.
So with a calibrated monitor you have a reference to judge your print by.
One thing: a common complaint is that prints come out too dark. Often that is because the monitor is too bright - most LCDs are way too bright off the shelf.
