1. Re: Access to camera DNG/camera profiles within PS CS5
D Fosse-QDEaQ1 Aug 30, 2010 6:02 AM (in response to deedeecz)No. But you can open from Lr as a smart object, which will embed a copy of the raw file in the .psd.
Then you can reopen into ACR and change profiles (and anything else), and the changes will update the .psd.

Noel Carboni Aug 30, 2010 7:13 AM (in response to deedeecz)You may be confusing image color profiles with camera profiles. They are not really the same things at all.
A Camera Profile defines how Camera Raw "develops" raw images into pixels.
An Image Profile defines how color-managed applications interpret the values in those pixels.
Camera Raw provides the ability to convert into several different Image Profiles, via the little link at the bottom-center of the Camera Raw dialog, and Photoshop proper offers you the ability to convert profiles via the Edit - Convert to Profile feature.
Hope this helps.

deedeecz Aug 30, 2010 8:45 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)I know the difference between the image color profiles and camera profiles - sorry if I made it sound confusing in my post. I'm not concerned with color profiles at all, so the Edit - Convert to Profile feature doesn't concern me.
Thanks Noel.

Zeno Bokor Aug 30, 2010 8:54 AM (in response to deedeecz)The only way would be to open your raw files as Smart Objects and then when you want to modify the image in Camera Raw you simply double click on the layer thumbnail.

Noel Carboni Aug 30, 2010 8:58 AM (in response to deedeecz)Thanks for letting me know. I'm sorry, sometimes it's hard to tell how advanced a person's understanding is to start with.

6. Re: Access to camera DNG/camera profiles within PS CS5
deedeecz Aug 30, 2010 9:02 AM (in response to D Fosse-QDEaQ1)Hey. Thanks for a promp reply. I tried to do what you suggested but to no avail. I opend a NEF image in PS which brings the camera raw dialog window up. Next, I chose the profile I wanted (eg. camera standard) and open the image as a smart object in PS. Should I now go to FILE -> OPEN and open the same image which will bring the camera raw dialog again? If I do so, then I have 2 windows opened: PS window with my NEF file opened with the "camera standard profile" and ACR window opened with the same image. Is this what you mean?
