1. Re: Some 24 fps clips playback choppy in project
steveprc Aug 31, 2010 3:04 PM (in response to DesignCBTs)It may just be the limitation of the video card. Did you render the files for smooth playback? And, is your project file set to output at 24fps, or 30 fps?

DesignCBTs Sep 1, 2010 12:28 AM (in response to steveprc)You may be right about the video card. I did render the files which required rendering. Output however, isn't determined until you're ready to export.

3. Re: Some 24 fps clips playback choppy in project
Colin Brougham Sep 1, 2010 4:25 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)Is your footage actually being interpreted as 24p (frame rate should say 23.976fps)? Are you editing in a 24p timeline? If the footage is being interpreted as 24p but you're editing in a 60i timeline, you are likely to see some stuttering.

4. Re: Some 24 fps clips playback choppy in project
DesignCBTs Sep 1, 2010 9:17 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)Here's the rub - some of my clips play flawlessly on the timeline and in the source window. CS5 doesn't give you the option to choose between frame rates - at least not that I've found, until you export.
There are two significant variables, it was cold, windy with showers. I also used to camcorders. I may have to perform some sample shots with both of them, to determine whether one has a problem...

5. Re: Some 24 fps clips playback choppy in project
John T Smith Sep 1, 2010 9:40 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)I have not used it (only work with 1 camera) but CS5 has a New Item (I think it called) button near the bottom of the screen
You may drag a file and drop it onto the new item button and CS5 will take care of the setup

DesignCBTs Sep 8, 2010 4:15 PM (in response to John T Smith)I'm wondering whether it's simply my perception, not really a flaw. As I said - I'm not familiar with using 24fps.
Many thanks for those who gave me information!

Bill Hunt Sep 8, 2010 5:21 PM (in response to DesignCBTs)CS5 doesn't give you the option to choose between frame rates - at least not that I've found, until you export.
There are two places, that one CAN choose Frame Rates:
1.) With New Sequence, one can choose Desktop for the Preset, and adjust most attributes of that Sequence. These should match the source footage 100%
2.) One can use Interpret Footage, and alter some aspects of how PrPro "treats" that footage.
Obviously, #1 is the most important.
Good luck,
Hunt
