Bridge CS5 doesn't  see changes made by LR3

    deedeecz Community Member

When I make changes to the NEF files in LR3 in the DEVELOP module, Bridge doesn't see it.  Must I develop NEFs to other format first for bridge to pick up the changes?

Don't use Lightroom, so just a guess.  Make sure LR writes to metadata file.  Believe LR uses a database and Bridge uses XMP sidecar file.

I have made this recommendation several times in the past but it would seem

            to be needed once again.

You really should embed metadata into the file from within Bridge.  To do so

go to Tools > Create Metadata Template to create a template for a set of

images.  Since most of the people on this list appear to be photographers

this would be an ideal scenario.  Create your template and then navigate to

your directory of image files and apply the metadata to the entire range. To

apply a template to an entire set of files hit Ctrl+A to select and then go

to Tools: Append Metadata or Replace Metadata.  Each offers slightly

            different options.

By following this workflow you ensure that the metadata is an integral part

of the image itself, and not a separate file (XMP sidecar) that can over

            time get lost.

It is my understanding that some metadata is stored on the image, and some stored as either an xmp sidecar fie, or in a data base, depending on option selected.  The last option is not recommended by the "experts". This mainly pertains to images edited in ACR.

All the metadata is written to the file if the images are converted to DNG files.

I could be wrong, so can you clarify how the template would write directly to the image rather than the xmp file?

I got this reply in LR forum:

"By default the adjustments are only saved to the Lr catalog. To be seen by Bridge you must save the settings back to the original file (keystrokes Cmd/Ctrl+S)."

I tried ctrl + s in LR but the image hasn't chnged in Bridge   Instead, 2 small, round grey icons appeared in the upper right corner of the image in bridge(one for cropping and one dor levels). The image itself hasn't chnaged.

UPDATE: After clicking Ctrl+s it was just a matter of setting previews in Br to high quality
